I was up in Knox, ME, on Saturday at the Central Maine Spaniel Club’s Field Cocker Field Trial. Puck and I had a great time – lots of great dogs and lots of nice people. Enjoy the pics.
Hunting dogs, fine firearms, and enjoying both.

If I won a bazillion dollars tomorrow, one of the first things I would do is build a collection of kick-butt British doubles. And this 12 gauge Purdey sidelock would be one of the first guns I would buy. It looks like it’s in fantastic original condition, and it’s definitely from one of gunmaker’s best [...]

The A.H. Fox Sterlingworth is one of the most affordable of the classic American side-by-side shotguns. Thanks to their simple design and sleek lines, they’re also one of the most reliable and best looking. If you’re looking to get into classic double barrels, this 16 gauge Sterly would be a great place to start. It [...]

The Field-Bred English Cocker Spaniel is a hunting dog that’s getting more and more popular every year. This weekend, Puck and I are heading up to Wildwind Kennels in Knox, ME, to check out the Central Maine Spaniel Club’s Cocker Spaniel Field Trials. The weather is going to be great and there should be a lot [...]

Pheasant season is just a few months away and if you’re looking to get a new shotgun for roosters, this 12 gauge SKB is a great choice. Ithaca imported SKB side-by-side shotguns from 1969 to 1978 and they came in a 4 different grades: the 150, the 200, the 200E and the 280E (E is for ejectors). All [...]

This nice Sigarms Aurora 20 gauge shotgun is on Gunbroker.com right now. Sig had these double barrel shotguns made for them by B. Rizzini about a decade ago. They were good deals back then and they’re great deals now. If your looking for a grouse and woodcock gun, this one would be hard to beat.

If you follow this blog, you know how much I love Craig Koshyk’s book Pointing Dogs: Volume One: The Continentals. Here’s a review of it that I wrote a little while ago. It was published in July/August 2012 edition of Shooting Sportsman magazine: I’m selfish with my time, and the older I grow the worse [...]
