20 gauge Gastinne Renette Sidelock Ejector Side-by-Side

20 gauge Gastinne Renette Sidelock Ejector Side-by-Side

London is the traditional source of the world’s best shotguns, and for good reason. Boss & Co., Purdey & Sons, Holland & Holland and other makers based their have been making fantastic doubles for over 150+ years. But Best-quality doubles have also come from other parts of the UK and Europe.

This 20 gauge sidelock by Gastinne Renette is one of them. Gastinne Renette was one of Europe’s most famous gunmakers. With a shop in Paris, they sold all sorts of firearms, from presentation-grade percussion rifles to this little double. And from what I can see of this 20 gauge, it’s on par with the finest shotguns from London and any other city in the world.

  1. Greg; I viewed the Gastinne-Renette 20ga. Yes, indeed a fine shotgun by a world class maker. It appears to be of 1920’s vintage and perhaps more recent. I have seen and held a nearly exact example of the GR made by Louis Flobert of Paris. Regardless it is a well preserved field gun. Now, I am sure you have photos of my 1857 Gastinne-Renette 16ga.double made with the blessing of NapoleonIII as denoted on the top rib of my specimen. If you do not have such photos I will be most willing to provide some for your viewers. I am near desparate in attempting to establish a value on this RARE example of mine as there are NO comparisons. Cordially, GR Mundale

    Guy –

Thanks for your comment. You did send me pics of your Gastinne Renette 16ga. Nice shotgun.

If you want to see what it’s worth, send it to auction and see what it brings. That’s the only real way to know. Everything else is just speculation and conjecture.

    Gregg
