L.L. BEAN New Englander Over-Under 28g, 28” barrels

L.L. BEAN New Englander Over-Under 28g, 28” barrels

If you’re looking for a 28 gauge O/U, here’s one that looks like a great deal.

These shotguns were built in Italy by Battista Rizzini, imported by SIGARMS, and sold through L.L. Bean for a few years – I think from around 2003-2004. This one is a TR-20 (same as B. Rizzini’s Aurum Classic) and it features an action machined from a solid block of alloy steel and hard-chromed bores.

L.L. BEAN New Englander Over-Under 28g, 28” barrels: Nicely figured round knob stock with thin black Pachmayr pad, single selective trigger, automatic ejectors, ventilated rib, 100% case coloring, bluing, and wood finish, lightly used, light and well balanced gun, at 6 lbs 2oz ( on my scale) with a long length of pull, includes upgraded factory case and 5 choke tubes. A great little upland gun. 14 7/8” x 1 ¼” x 2 ¼”. 6lbs. 3oz. Price: $1800 shipped

Cool gun, but shouldn’t any gun with the moniker “New Englander” be a SxS with DTs??? Just professing my profound respect for my Northern brethren! (Yankees)

    I hear ya.

Upstairs at their Freeport store they have one of L.L.’s Parkers on display – I think it’s a 12g DHE. I think another one of his Parkers went through Julia’s a few years ago. I know a guy who bought a H&H .303 Dominion DR that used to belong to old man Bean.

L.L. Bean is back to selling SxS. I think they’re AYAs. Not very nice. They’re trying to move some Merkels, too. They also sold some Bernadellis in the past.

Regardless, they didn’t sell many of those O/Us and they aren’t selling many SxSs.

There’s more money to be made in khaki pants, tshirts, and cotton sheets (for them, anyway). Fishing & Hunting are just vanity businesses for LL Bean.

The O/Us are nice guns, though. Where else can you can that much quality for under $2000? And the safety is far easier to use than the one on the 28g Ruger Red Label.
