The reward - Puck with a fresh grouse
The reward – Puck with a fresh grouse

Thank you to everyone who commented on yesterday’s post about Puck. It’s a shame that so many of you have been through the same thing.

My wife and I appreciate the condolences, stories, and kind words a great deal. Losing Puck has been tough, and your notes are a great comfort to both of us.

Puck’s bed is beside me here in my study, and I’ve turned to it several times this morning thinking she’ll be there, ready with wagging tail to go for a walk or for just a rub on the ear.

  1. Dogs & Men

    By Ben Ames Williams

A dog does not live as long as a man and this natural law is the fount of many tears. If a boy and puppy might grow to manhood and doghood together, and together grow old, and so in due course die, full many a heartache might be avoided. But the world is not so ordered, and dogs will die and men will weep for them so long as there are dogs and men.

  2. It’s clear your love and adoration of Puck are truly lifelong and passionate for both of you. It’s tough to see, but Puck’s thoughts and feelings for you were clearly as deep seeded and moving. Her love of you and her life with you are testaments to the bond between dog and man. Each of you probably think closely the same, Puck’s thoughts were- “a luckier dog could not be found on earth”, and likewise your comments to her were probably the same. I feel for your loss and wish you the best.
