Sixteen gauge Lefevers are hard to find. Real hard. All together, the Lefever Arms Co. made fewer than 7500 of them (Fox made 30,000+ double barrel shotguns in 16 gauge, Parker and L.C. Smith cranked out far more). So I get excited when I see a 16 gauge Lefever like this one. At first glance, [...]

I have a weakness for the impractical, especially impractical old shotguns. That’s why I love this 8 gauge W. & C. Scott Excellentia. Considering that 8 gauge ammo is almost impossible to find, and that hunting with an 8 gauge shotguns is illegal in most states, I think this side-by-side is as far from sensible [...]

Charles Daly was a businessman, not a gunmaker. Born in 1839, he partnered with August Shoverling around 1875 to import shotguns into the United States. These side-by-sides were marketed under Charles Daly’s name, and up to about WW2, they were some of the finest double-barrel shotguns for sale in the US. This little 24 gauge at [...]

In England, 12 gauge shotguns rule. That’s why it seems like you’ll see a dozen or more 12gs for every 16g or 20g double barrel you come across. And because many of the smaller-gauge guns were made for smaller people, these side-by-sides often have shorter barrels and stubby stocks. That’s not the case with this [...]

A big problem with old shotguns is that they’re…well..old. This has given people lots of time to mess with them. And while I love double barrels, I hate ones that have been messed with. That’s why this 12 gauge Holland & Holland Royal at Julia’s caught my eye. They’re calling it ”An exceptional original solid gun.” [...]

I wanted this 20 page Boss O/U catalog. It’s the only one like it that I’ve ever seen and it was on Ebay. I really wanted it, but in the end I didn’t want it enough. It’s closing price was $422. That’s over $20 a page! BTW: this is the Boss catalog you usually see on [...]

Hammerguns are just plain cool, especially ones by American makers. Check out this quick video to get a closer look at one of my favorites, a Remington Model 1882 double barrel shotgun.

Nice, clean English boxlock shotguns are tough to find–especially in anything other than 12 gauge. That’s why this 20 gauge Webley & Scott caught my eye. It’s looks like it’s in excellent, all original condition. And as a plus, it has 28″ barrels and stock looks pretty long. In my experience, good guns always bring [...]
