Connecticut’s Governor Dannel P. Malloy hates pheasant hunters. Or at least he doesn’t think they should do much pheasant hunting in his state. Malloy’s 2013 budget proposes cutting the $160,000 used to stock state land with pheasants. For most people in Connecticut, this would mean an end to all upland hunting in their state. You can read more about this here.

Thanks to sprawl and “enlightened” ideas about forestry and land management, Connecticut has very little wild bird hunting left. Much of what does exist sits behind No Trespassing signs.
For many state residents, stocked pheasants on state land was the only way to experience bird hunting. If Malloy’s budget goes through, that, like the excellent grouse hunting that used to exist across the state, will disappear.
Most bird hunters just aren’t the protesting type and unfortunately that’s what it takes to get gov’t attention. Constituents who raise hell in the face of proposed adverse legislation usually at least get some type of concession. I know budgets are tight everywhere and states have to find places to cut back, but if enough bird hunters in CN spoke out, they’d keep looking for that $160,000 until they found a place where no one cared enough to speak up. It sucks that you need a temperament that makes people afraid to mess with you just to enjoy something in peace.
I hear you.
If you’re a CT resident and you want to hunt pheasants in your state, I recommend kicking, screaming, and kicking up a dust storm about this.
The governor isn’t expecting a fight over this. Give him one.
Thanks
Gregg
The governor said if there’s no pheasants to hunt for 2012 it won’t effect that many. The people it will effect are people who go to work everyday. Pay there taxes to the state pay there money for a license and tags. Hunting is a way for people to relax relieve some stress from the every day hussle just like golf or going to a ball game is for others. They will take the money we already put in put it in the gen fund it will go to well fair , paying for prisons and such. That’s typical of the govt take all the little things in life that the working class enjoy and take them away or tax it so much you can’t afford it.
P.s. I know two it will effect my chocolate lab and springer spaniel
Tim- Yeah, I hear you. It sucks. You guys in CT should get together and raise stink about it. Have march in Hartford, dress in hunting clothes, bring you dogs. That would get the governor’s attention.
Thanks for the post.
Gregg
It’s true in a state that spends more money on things like methodone clinics and halfway houses, does not understand law abiding citizens that fund and enjoy their own activities. Vote this guy out next time and stop doing what your union reps tell you to do . Look what is happening to the the teachers of this great state. All hunters of all types please call your state reps and govs office, your hunting game may be next!!
