Auguste Francotte 12 Gauge O/U Double Barrel Shotgun: This beautifully crafted Auguste Francotte 12 gauge Over/Under has deep engraving, nicely figured wood, Greener-type cross bolt, and auto ejectors. It would be a fine addition to the gun cabinet of shooters or collectors of O/U shotguns, as it is a great example of the origins of what has become the most popular type of doublegun. The 28” barrels have 2-3/4” chambers and are choked Improved Modified (.025) in the lower barrel and Full (.030) in the upper barrel. The wall thickness (right/left) for the lower barrel at 9” from muzzle is .035/.033 and at the middle of the barrel is .038/.036; the upper barrel is .035/.035 and .038/.038, respectively. Bores 9” from the breach are .729/.729. At some point in the gun’s history, the European-style sling mounts were removed from the lower barrel and stock. The stock and forearm are fine European walnut. The drop at the comb is 1-1/2” and at the heel 2-1/4”. Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the wood is 14-1/4”. The butt of the stock is checkered. The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to the right of center. All serial numbers, 53774, match.
