Double-barrel shotguns tend to be expensive. But that doesn’t mean you can find nice ones for very fair prices — including brand new ones.
Just look at this 20g Franchi Instinct over-under. It’s is brand new OU with modern stock dimensions, a reliable single trigger, and screw-in chokes. It looks like it’s built on the same proven triggerplate-style action that a lot of modern Italian OUs use. And from what it says over on Franchi’s website, it weighs in at just dog whisker over 6lbs – just right for a 20g. When it comes to a good gun for a fair price, those features pretty much check all the boxes.
Sure the wood’s plain and the stock’s a bit chunky through the hand, but if I take my eyes off the trees and look at the forest, I see a darn nice shotgun.

It appears to be the typical modern Brescia type action. Probably a great buy for the money, and certainly nicer than several others out there for this price.
Yeah – I think it’s that action all the Rizzini OUs & Guerinis use. Probably the same one CSMC uses for the Inverness. I think the Franchi comes with a 7-year warranty, too.
