Exceedingly rare and fine Parker DHE 410ga with PGCA letter - investment grade!
Exceedingly rare and fine Parker DHE 410ga with PGCA letter – investment grade!

Exceedingly rare and fine Parker DHE 410ga with PGCA letter – investment grade!: Exceptionally rare and fine original Parker DHE 410ga.  This gun is a very rare transition gun made without “Parker” engraved on the frame.  Made in late 1933 on a “000” frame with original 26″ Titanic steel barrels.  The gun was made with original splinter forend, double triggers, auto ejectors, auto safety.  Engraved in typical DHE grade pattern for the era.  Mounted with a very nice original American Walnut capped pistol grip buttstock with original Skeleton buttplate. The gun remains in excellent original condition.  The barrels retain nearly all of an older professionally restored finish.  The action retains about 1/3 of its light original case color which has toned.  Stocks are sound and excellent and retain about 95% of their original finish with only minor handling marks.  The skeleton buttplate is excellent.  Bores are brilliant and shiny and the gun is in perfect mechanical condition with perfect screws throughout. This gun matches the PGCA letter exactly as found and should be considered investment quality throughout. Price: $64,950*

W & C Scott .410 – 1926, EJECTORS, 28”, IN PROOF, NICE WOOD

W & C Scott .410 – 1926, EJECTORS, 28”, IN PROOF, NICE WOOD: Serial Number: 98002. 5lbs 1oz, Chokes F/F, LOP 14 1/2″, DAH 2 13/16″, DAC 1 9/16″. What a delightful find we have here with a W & C Scott and Sons baby frame .410 BOXLOCK EJECTOR GUN WITH 28” BARRELS AND A FULL-LENGTH ORIGINAL BUTTSTOCK MEASURING 14 ½” LOP TO THE HORN BUTTPLATE.  I emphasize this as most British made .410 doubleguns have short barrels and short stocks, and usually are extractor only guns built for youthful shooters or ladies.  To find an example of a “full-size” .410 from a well-known British maker with a London address on the barrels is a treasure in hand!  This gun, sn98002, was built in 1926 and is in excellent condition, STILL IN PROOF WITH 2 ½” CHAMBERS AND BORE DIAMETER OF .411.  Weighing just 5lbs. 1oz. and balanced just ahead of the hinge pin, this is a true, scaled frame, boxlock ejector.  The hard-to-find 28” barrels have tight ribs, mirror shiny bores choked F/F, with no dents or dings, newly reblacked to perfection, fit tight as new to the hinge pin and breech face, and the engraved maker’s name and address still sharp and clear on the barrels.  The action and mechanics are superb, as this is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, HAVING BEEN STRIPPED TO THE SMALLEST PART, ULTRASONIC CLEANED, EACH PART INSPECTED FOR INTEGRITY AND FUNCTION, PROPERLY LUBRICATED AND REASSEMBLED, NOW WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  The action retains about 30% fading factory original case color and the bottom plate retains 80% of the original blue, the ejectors are strong and timed, triggers are crisp, screws are excellent, fine English scroll engraving and fancy borders adorn the action in a most pleasant way.  The action is tight with the lever right of center.  The wood is well figured and freshly restored to perfection with hand-rubbed Truoil finish to bring out the figure.  The wood-to-metal fit is tight, the original flat-topped checkering has been cleaned up, and there are no chips or cracks anywhere.  THIS IS A GORGEOUS LITTLE BRITISH .410!  The stock dimensions are modern (see table below), and this gun is ready to shoot for another 95 years with proper care.  It is a rare find to have all the best features found in a scaled frame .410, ie 28” barrels, in proof, long LOP, ejectors, superb mechanics, and freshly restored barrels, trigger guard, and wood…there is nothing left to do but go break a few clays and then let the quail, woodcock, or other upland game realize that you are deadly with this diminutive British double.  This is an investment grade gun that you will enjoy as it continues to grow in value and demand will never cease for such a gun.  Don’t hesitate, as this one won’t last long at the fair price we are presenting here. Price: $6,750

Ford was also a well known barrel maker who made barrels for some of London’s Best Makers. This gun is in excellent condition with 70% original case color . Barrels are 2 3/4 Nitro Proofed and 25″ with Churchill Rib and bored IC right and Mod left. Stock is dark highly figured near exhibition quality with an LOP of 15″ to checkered butt. There are no dents or marks. Bluing near mint on barrels and trigger guard (may have been reblacked long ago. Engraving is outstanding and done in Holland & Holland style (I would not be surprized if the same engraver for H & H did this gun as well).. engraving everywhere is very sharp. Don’t let the 25″ barrels sway you…..with a 15 LOP this gun fits and feels like the proverbial Magic Wand. To top it all of it weighs a feathery 5lb 6 oz. Price: $9950

1938 Vintage Lefever Arms Ithaca "A" Grade .410 Double w/ 26" Barrels, Ejectors, & Single Trigger ** RARE w/ Factory Letter! **
1938 Vintage Lefever Arms Ithaca “A” Grade .410 Double w/ 26″ Barrels, Ejectors, & Single Trigger ** RARE w/ Factory Letter! **

1938 Vintage Lefever Arms Ithaca “A” Grade .410 Double w/ 26″ Barrels, Ejectors, & Single Trigger ** RARE w/ Factory Letter! **: This is a very special all-original Lefever / Ithaca “A” Grade .410 Ga. double-barrel shotgun made in 1938, complete with an original November of 1975-dated factory letter. One of only 150 made in .410 gauge, this extremely-cool and beautiful little double features a case-colored receiver, a factory gloss blue finish on the barrels, 26″ inch fluid-steel barrels choked “Modified” and “Full” with 3″ inch chambers, a checkered solid rib with a red front bead sight and an ivory mid-bead, automatic ejectors (special order), a single trigger (special order), a tang-mounted automatic safety, and a point-pattern checkered American Walnut stock set with a beavertail forearm and pistol-grip buttstock.  The beavertail forearm has a push-button release and an ebony diamond inlay at the front edge, and the buttstock features a factory black pistol grip cap and a factory black serrated buttplate. While the original Lefever Arms of Syracuse, New York Discontinued operations in 1916, it was bought by the Ithaca Gun Company sometime shortly after.  In 1921 Ithaca decided to use the Lefever name to brand a high-quality but lower-cost field gun they were manufacturing, calling it the Lefever Nitro Special.  This allowed Ithaca to maintain the prestige of the Ithaca name but still produce a lower-cost shotgun.  The Lefever Nitro Special was a big success for the company and by 1934 Ithaca decided to offer an “upgraded” version of the gun, calling it the Lefever “A” Grade.  The “A” Grade guns would feature a color case-hardened frame with some minimal engraving, an improved checkered solid rib design, and a better grade of wood.  Automatic ejectors and a single trigger could be special ordered on this model for an additional cost.  The production run of the Lefever “A” Grade ran from 1934 until 1940, with a total of only 2,350 guns produced.  Out of the 2,350 made, 1,000 were 12 Gauge, 600 were 16 Gauge, 600 were 20 Gauge, and only 150 were .410 Gauge.  This particular example is serial number 301038 and is one of the 150 .410 Gauge guns made.  It was shipped in 1938 to Herbert Hearn Hardware company in Cambridge, Maryland and is listed in their records as it sits now, as a 26″ inch gun choked “Modified” and “Full” with ejectors and a single trigger.  A quick internet search turns up some old pictures of the Hearn building when it was still in business as well as some pictures of what remains of the building today (which was being restored as of 2017).  As you can see from the pictures, this very handsome little Lefever has been used but not abused.  All of the finish that remains on this shotgun is original, and it has not been altered or “improved” in any way.  It is a very classy double with lots of original gloss blue showing on the barrels and patches of case colors still showing on the receiver, particularly in the protected areas.  The factory stampings of “Lefever Arms, Branch Ithaca Gun Co. Inc. Ithaca, N.Y.” and “LEFEVER A GRADE” on the top of the chambers is still clear and legible.  All of the serial numbered parts are matching and original, including the forearm metal, receiver, and barrels.  The stock set is stamped with the serial number as well, with the beavertail forearm stamped on the underside between the barrel channels and the buttstock stamped under the tang of the triggerguard.  The bores in the 26″ inch barrels are perfect and mirror-bright.  They are free from any pitting, dents, bulges, or damage of any kind.  The stock set on this Lefever is in very good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage.  All of the factory stock hardware is intact and nothing has been modified.  The checkered panels on the wrist and forearm are still clean and show only light wear.  This “A” Grade Lefever has a perfect, tight lock-up, and is perfectly “on face” with no wiggle or slop.  The single trigger, automatic ejectors, and automatic safety all work perfectly.  We have no doubt that this Lefever will function just as well today as the day it left the factory, and should do so for many more decades.   If you have been looking for a classy and collectible American-made vintage .410 double, this is your chance to get one of the rarest we have had in decades.  This Lefever Ithaca should not only be an excellent field gun that you can enjoy shooting, but an excellent long-term investment as well.  There can’t be too many of the original 150 .410’s made that are still floating around out there in original condition, much less with special order automatic ejectors and a single trigger like this one! Price: $6,500

Ithaca 7E Double Barrel SxS Shotgun, 12 Gauge
Ithaca 7E Double Barrel SxS Shotgun, 12 Gauge

Ithaca 7E Double Barrel SxS Shotgun, 12 Gauge: This is the first 7E Grade Ithaca we have ever seen, which is understandable since there were only 22 or 25 ever manufactured.  According to Walter C. Snyder, an Historian of the Ithaca Gun Company, this shotgun was shipped to an undisclosed location on 12/5/44.  The condition is superb, as one might expect from such a high grade shotgun, it shows almost no wear or evidence of use.  The blue and case-colors are near 100%, the bores are perfect and the highly figured American Walnut stock is ornately checkered and is in near new condition.  It appears that the only non-original part is a proper “sunburst” Ithaca marked reproduction recoil pad.  The case hardened receiver is highly engraved and has six gold inlays including 2 ducks, 2 pheasants, a dog holding a duck and a bald eagle complete with a white gold head.  The shotgun is fitted with ejectors, double gold plated triggers, and the barrels are 28 inches in length, choked full and full (0040″ + .0040″).  The stock dimensions are: 14 inch length-of-pull, 2 3/4 inch drop at the heel and 1 3/4 inch drop at the comb.  The weight is 7 lbs. 13 oz.   The 7E Grade Ithaca is one of the rarest of all American Doubles and it would be hard to find a better one.  Comes with a letter from the Chronicler of the Ithaca Gun Company dated 9/5/07.  Price: $35,000

A.H. Fox XE, SxS Shotgun, Two Barrel Set:
A.H. Fox XE, SxS Shotgun, Two Barrel Set:

A.H. Fox XE, SxS Shotgun, Two Barrel Set: This is an A.H. Fox XE 12 gauge shotgun, with a 2nd barrel set fit by Turnbull Restoration. This classic American double gun carries serial number 29317, and is dated from 1924. Metal restoration was performed by Turnbull, and included light polishing, engraving was not re-cut (see photos); color case hardening of receiver, top lever and forend iron/latch; trigger reshaped to mid-position; both sets of barrels were polished and rust blued by us. The Fox has been utilized by its owner since restoration, so it does carry some handling marks. This Fox’s original barrel set is 28″ in length. A 2nd barrel set at 26″ was fit by Turnbull Restoration and engraved to match the original set. Wood condition is very good with minor handling marks. We did not work on this Fox’s wood, and appears to have been refinished by a 3rd party at some point. We replaced the original broken grip cap. 28″ barrel set (original): Cylinder/Improved Cylinder, 2-1/2″ chambers. 26″ heavey barrel set: Improved Cylinder/Modified, 3″ chambers with long forcing cones. Price: $20,000

Exceedingly Rare Lefever FE Grade 20ga with beautiful Damascus barrels
Exceedingly Rare Lefever FE Grade 20ga with beautiful Damascus barrels

Exceedingly Rare Lefever FE Grade 20ga with beautiful Damascus barrels: For your consideration is an extremely rare Lefever FE Grade 20ga gun. Anyone who knows Lefever guns, knows well that the Lefever small bore guns simply don’t exist in nature. They are really rare and hard to find. This particular Lefever has gorgeous 28″ American Flag Damascus pattern. They are a thing of beauty!!!  The gun has DT, AE, and auto safety. The capped PG buttstock is checkered in a two-point pattern. The splinter forend is checkered in typical later FE pattern with engraved steel escutcheon. The action is engraved in typical FE pattern with flying duck on left, falling woodcock on right surrounded by light scroll engraving. The gun retains more than 1/2 of its original case color, particularly nice and dark on the left side and on top. Barrels retain about 85%+ original damascus pattern. Screws are all excellent and the gun is totally unmolested. The stocks are sound and measure 2″ DAC, 3-1/4″ DAH and LOP is 13-3/4″ over the original lined HRBP. Both barrels measure .620 on the money, and the chokes are .012 (right) and .020 (left). Min walls are about.028 in each barrel. The gun weighs right at 6lbs. This is an extremely rare gun and easily one of the top FE 20ga I have seen in more than 25 years of aggressively chasing Lefevers. Price: $6895

10g Joseph Lang & a .410 Francotte: Two SxS shotguns coming up at Poulin Auctions …

Here are two more nice doubles coming up at Poulin Auctions 2018 Fall sale, which starts this Saturday, 10/20.

This Lang is a converted pinfire and an interesting piece of history. Lang was one of the first British makers to build breechloading shotguns, and I bet this gun was among the first ones he built.

The Jenkinson serial # is 700 and the Holloway # is 22734. Holloway & Co. has been around since the 19th century. They had premises at 10-12 & 14 Vesey Street in Birmingham. In 1901 Tommy Naughton was the manager at Holloway & Co. and he bought the firm and it became Holloway & Naughton Ltd. but they continued business separately. G & S (George & Sidney) Holloway were for the most part makers to the trade and maintained an excellent reputation before and after WWII. About 1978 production of new Holloway guns was dropped but they continued with repairs. Graham Clive Holloway of G & S Holloway died in February of 1994 and that was the end of an era for G & S Holloway. To this day Holloway & Naughton shotguns are still made and manufactured to the client’s individual requirements and they can be found at hollowaynaughton.co.uk B. (Bob) Jenkinson was a dealer in many Holloway made guns during the 1950’s & 1960’s in New York City. Price: $11,995

Lefever EE Grade 12ga. SxS Shotgun – BEAUTIFUL DAMASCUS, GREAT DIMENSIONS
Lefever EE Grade 12ga. SxS Shotgun – BEAUTIFUL DAMASCUS, GREAT DIMENSIONS

Lefever EE Grade 12ga. SxS Shotgun – BEAUTIFUL DAMASCUS, GREAT DIMENSIONS: 1901, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 10oz, SxS Serial Number: 35307E. Most who pursue American doubles are aware that Lefever Arms Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. produced very elegant shotguns.  The engraving is better than most in its tasteful application, the frames were ornately sculpted and shaped, and the workmanship overall was superior to the competition of the day.  With the last Lefever being produced in 1919, Lefever produced relatively few guns; in the range of 50.000 or so in all grades and gauges, most being lower grade guns.  Mr. Elliot’s book “Uncle Dan Lefever—Master Gunmaker” notes few high-grade Lefevers were produced, and most gunners that search for fine American vintage double guns are aware that there are few Lefever EE Grade guns ever seen for sale, especially in great original condition.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS LEFEVER, SN35307 MADE IN 1901, RETAINS PLENTY OF  FACTORY ORIGINAL CASE COLORS. Price: $4,450
