Browning BSS Sporter (Straight Grip) in 20 Gauge, 28″ barrels w/ Browning Luggage Case: It would be hard to find a nicer and more desirable Browning BSS side by side than this one! This 20 gauge “Sporter” model was made in 1979 and is as nice as they come. It comes complete with the original dark brown Browning hard sided luggage case with the owner’s manual and latch keys. It has 28 inch barrels which is the longest length that Browning offered in this model, and they are the hardest length to find. This model BSS also features a straight English style grip, a single selectable trigger, automatic ejectors, and a oil finished walnut stock with checkering on the wrist and forearm. The Browning factory blue finish on the metal parts rates a conservative 98% and looks minty. Only under very close examination can you find anything to deduct some percentage points. The original factory stock set is in excellent condition and could pass for being made last week! The checkering is still sharp and it has not been altered in any way. The Browning butt plate is in excellent shape, and the shotgun pulls 14 & 1/4 inches. The condition of this Browning is nearly perfect and looks like it was never used or carried in the field. These BSS models have a reputation for being durable and nicely fit and finished. Not only are they a very attractive and classy double gun, they handle well in the field and have great balance. We share the opinion of many that you can’t buy a nicer double for the money than this model, and we think it would be next to impossible to find a BSS in any better condition than this one. Here’s a great deal on a very nice little double. Abercrombie & Fitch imported these Anson & Deeley style boxlocks in the 1960s and maybe in the ’50s, too. These guns were made in Italy by Guido Rizzini, his brothers, and another Italian gunmaker named Rinaldo Zoli. They’re simple, solid doubles, built on one of the finest side-by-side actions ever created.
This one is in the most versatile gauge ever (12), it’s the perfect weight for upland hunting (6 1/2lbs), it has nice, modern dimentions (14.25″ LOP, 1 1/2 DAC, 2 1/4″ DAH), and it’s cheap — just $749.99. Oh – and it also has 28″ bbls, 2 3/4″ chambers, and great chokes (IC & M). Honestly, I don’t know why I’m telling you guys about it. I should just buy it for myself.

It’s hard to believe, but Abercrombie & Fitch used to call itself ‘The Greatest Sporting Goods Store in the World”. Judging by the inventory of fine guns they use to carry, that claim is easy to believe.
Along with new double-barrel shotguns by everyone from Parker to Purdey, Abercrombie & Fitch also stocked a number Francotte side-by-sides. This 20 gauge Francotte 14E on Gunbroker.com now is an excellent example of one of those shotguns.
Even though the Grade 14 was the lowest grade Francotte that Abercrombie carried, these guns were fantastically well made. They weren’t cheap, either. In 1951 a 20 gauge Francotte 14E cost $550 (a Winchester Model 21 was $329.20). And that’s without the case and accessories.
This 20 gauge Francotte 14E on Gunbroker.com looks like it’s in excellent, all original condition. With it’s 28″ barrels, double triggers and modern dimensions (1 3/8 x 2 1/4 x 14 1/2) and sub-six pound weight, I think it would be a perfect shotgun for grouse and woodcock. Best of all, it’s pretty much brand new.
