Two real nice Euro O/Us: A 12 gauge Sodia and a .410 Merkel…

MERKEL, .410 Over-Under Double Barrel Shotgun, 28” bbls F/F
MERKEL, .410 Over-Under Double Barrel Shotgun, 28” bbls F/F

I have a fondness for older, European O/Us, especially for ones like you see below. The doubles have everything you need — 28″ bbls, decent dimensions — and they appear to be beautifully made and in good original condition.

One thing: I would double-check the chambers on the 12 gauge. They may have come from the factory or 3″, or someone may have bored them out. Buyer beware.

PETER MISCHITZ AUSTRIAN BOXLOCK Double Barrel side -by-side 12GA

Here’s a good deal on a side-by-side shotgun. It’s a 12 gauge boxlock ejector by Peter Mischitz. I’ve never heard of this maker, but from what I’ve been able to dig up it sounds like Peter Mischitz  worked in the Ferlach region of Austria around the time of World War 2.

I’ve seen Austrian/German boxlocks like this before, so I think it was probably supplied by the trade and then finished off by the maker on a as-ordered basis. A couple things make this gun special: all the color on the action, the ejectors, and, most importantly, the straight-grip stock. All together, these special features add up to make this shotgun a
