Manufrance Ideal Grade 5 16 ga SxS Shotgun: Manufrance Grade 5 16 ga under lever produced in 1931 with dual safety for right or left hand shooter. It has the retractable sling that makes it handy for carry on distance walks. It is in very high condition. It never fit me quite right and I did not want to alter it. It has straight stock with LOP to front trigger at 14.25 inches. The drop at the heel is 2 5/8″ and 1 5/8 inches at the comb. The gun weight is 6.2 lbs on my bath room scale. The barrels are 70 MM left brl is approx imately XF and the right brl is F on my slide in gauge. The case colors are very good and the checering also very good. The barrel blue is nice with no dents etc. The stock has minor handling marks.The butt plate is original to the gun. The best part of this gun is the dual safety feature for left or right had shooter. Price: $4,500

Very nice F. Castellani 12ga Game gun – a hand made, hand engraved full sidelock gun of very fine quality: Proofed in 1985, this full sidelock and nicely rose and scroll engraved gun exhibits very fine quality. The gun, made with 28-1/2″ fluid steel barrels with splinter forend. The splinter forend made with Anson type pushbutton release is checkered in point pattern. The coin finished action is nicely engraved in very fine rose and scroll engraving. The blued top lever is also very nicely scroll engraved as seen in the photos. Straight english grip buttstock is nicely point pattern checkered. The buttstock terminates with a finely checkered butt. Overall, the gun remains in excellent original condition. Barrels retain more than 97% original blue with brilliant shiny bores. Action is excellent with nearly all of its fine original coin finish remaining. Stocks are sound with only minor handling marks and retain nearly all of their original finish with only a couple of minor light impressions. Top lever well right of center. Mechanics are crisp, ejectors snap with authority and the gun is nice and tight. This is an exceptionally nice and high quality full sidelock gun which is well finished and deserving of great merit. The gun is very reasonably priced and should be valued much higher. Price: $4,195

Stunning high original condition W.C. Scott “Premier” Quality 12ga hammer gun – the finest example I have seen! W/orig. Case:
Absolutely gorgeous high original condition W.C. Scott 12ga “Premier” Hammer gun. Virtually never seen with an original straight grip, this gun has got it all! This gun made with 30″ Damascus barrels, checkered splinter forend with long fully engraved release lever at tip, double triggers and extractors. The gun has a very fine piece of English Walnut which is checkered in a point pattern with tear drop behind the locks and terminates with its original lined horn buttplate. The case hardened receiver is beautiful engraved in fine scroll as are the hammers and fences. Large gold shield behind top tang. The gun is near full coverage engraved and remains in exceptionally fine all original condition. Overall the gun remains in exceptional original condition with more than 90% of the Damascus pattern remaining. Receiver retains more than 75% vivid original case color and the screws are all near mint retaining nearly all of their fine nitre blue. Stocks are sound and retain nearly all of their original finish with checkering being very crisp for a gun of this vintage. Stocks with minor handling marks and impressions, but nothing serious to note. Bores are mostly bright and shiny with some light orange peel ahead of the chambers. Mechanics are crisp. These high grade English hammer guns are impossible to source in original untouched condition as they were virtually all sent back to the maker for service annually. This gun has exceptional merit to a collector and belongs in a distinguished collection. Price: $12,500

AYA is one of Spain’s oldest and most respected gunmakers, and their No 4/53 is their basic boxlock shotgun. According to their site, “The Nº 4 is mechanically very simple, which makes it durable, dependable, and easy to service.” Here’s more about this SxS from the seller:

AYA No. 4/53 Double Barrel 28 Ga Shotgun, Beautiful! PENNY START! This is an AYA No. 4/53 double barrel shotgun chambered in 28 gauge. This gun rates at about 99.8%! This gun is absolutely beautiful. The metal finish is about perfect, with only the very TINIEST little scratch on the left side lower edge of the receiver. The case colors are perfect. It is equipped with ejectors. The 26″ barrels are also perfect with bright and shiny bores. The wood is excellent with one small repaired crack as shown on the left side of the wrist. The classic English straight stock coupled with the splinter forend makes this gun a quick handler. The chokes are IC & M. AYA No. 53 Presentation Sidelock 12 Ga SxS: Up for sale is a beautiful AYA presentation sidelock 12 Ga. This shotgun is in excellent condition with the exception of some slight handing marks on the stock. This gun was completed in February of 1949 and presented to General Lucas V. Beau, Commander of the United States Civil Air Patrol by a group of Spanish Aviation Cadets in 1951. This gun is very nice and also comes with a great story and factory leather case. The ultimate Lefever target/pigeon gun 32″krupp barrels, straight grip EE grade with insane modern dimensions: Beautiful later Syracuse made Lefever EE Grade made with 32″ Krupp fluid steel barrels. This gun with splinter forend that has a clam shell release, made with double triggers, auto ejectors, auto safety. NR AYA sidelock 20 ga double barrel ejector w/ leather case engraved

For decades now, Spanish shotguns have been one of the best values out there — especially if you can buy a used one that’s in excellent shape. From what I can see, this pre-owned AYA is in that kind of shape.

I’m not sure what grade it is — made a AYA No. 2 — but it looks like a decent gun. I like the shaping of the action, the color-case hardening, and the wood. The engraving is OK, but it works with the rest of the gun. Overall, this 20g looks like a great little bird gun.

This nice looking 16g AYA shotgun is on Gunbroker.com now. It’s listed at NO RESERVE and the sale ends Wednesday, 3/24/2021 @ 3:21 PM EST.

The seller’s calling this side-by-side a No. 2, which AYA says is its “affordable sidelock double gun”. To me, it looks like a great grouse gun. It has a longish length of pull (14 3/4″) and it weighs just 5lbs 13oz. If I were bidding on it, I would ask for some more pics and info on it — specifically, I would want to see the proof marks, and I would want to know if the gun is tight, on the face and fully functional. I would also want to know if there are any issues with the barrels (bulges, dents, repairs).

I would ask about seller’s inspection/return policy, too. Sellers should give you 3 days to inspect a gun and allow you to return it within that timeframe if it has issues.

I’ve always heard good things about AYAs. Michael Yardley reviewed an AYA No. 1 for The Field back in 2008 and liked it. I guess the No. 2 is one step down from that gun.

Extremely Fine Documented Parker $135 Grade 14 Bore – The finest early 14 bore known! This incredible early Parker Hammer gun is recognized widely by advanced collectors as the finest 14 bore hammer gun known. The gun is pictured on page 233 of “THE PARKER STORY” and described as a $135 Grade Gun. It was made with straight stock which terminates with a blued full steel buttplate, splinter forend with wedge fastener, and 30″ Damascus barrels. The gun is an early “Pin Lifter” as seen in the photos. The gun weighs 8lbs 8oz and retains about 60% gorgeous original case color. The barrels retain about 90% original damascus pattern. AYA is one of Spain’s most famous gunmakers, and the No. 2 is probably AYA’s most famous shotgun. This model was introduced in the ’50s and went on to become the company’s top seller. Today, these guns gun around $8000 brand new.

The AYA No 2 is a Holland & Holland-style sidelock shotgun, and it has been popular with shooters in the US and the UK for decades. According to Dave Florent of The Oxford Gun Co. it’s the best value you’ll find in a sidelock.

The one you see here is a recent gun, and it appears to be in excellent original condition.

Make: Aguirre y Aranzabal (AyA), Gauge: 16 Gauge, 2 3/4″ Shells Model: Number 2 Serial Number: 238, Action Type: Double Barrel Sidelock Shotgun with Ejectors. Barrel Length: 29” Choke: Left: Modified, Right: Improved Cylinder, both fixed. Weight: 6 lb. 8.2 oz.

Year of Manufacture: 2012 (AyA guns have a coded serial number, 16-03 identifies the maker as AyA, 238 is the serial number, 12 is the year of manufacture), shipped January 2013 per AyA.

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “AYA – AGUIRRE & ARANZABAL – MADE IN SPAIN” The top of the left barrel is marked “”NECG-Claremont NH” / 16 Gauge”, “16.9” is marked on the bottom of each barrel with the left “***” and the right “****”. The flat has the AYA proof and logo “16-03 / 2338-12” and a series of Spanish proofs. The top of the forend iron is marked “238-12”, the top of the forend is stamped “238 12”. The water table is marked with a series of Spanish proofs, the AYA logo, and “16-03 / 238-12”. The guard is marked “N238”. The receiver has extensive fine scroll and border engraving with engraving motif continued on the guard, lever, exposed portions of the forend iron and the rear of the barrel rib.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with splinter forend, straight grip, straight comb, gold-colored initial plate inlet to the belly and bare checkered butt. The stocks have only minor handling wear, most notable in the butt at the heel. The checkering is well defined, generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 14 7/8″ and 13 7/8″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the butt. Drop at comb is approximately 1 3/8″, drop at heel 2 1/4″. The cast is about neutral. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Case Color and Blue Finish Originality: Original Bore Condition: The bores are Bright. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. Most of the balance is in light operational wear, concealed when assembled. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The safety returns to safe when the action is opened. The barrels lock-up to the receiver with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

AYA is probably the most famous Spanish gunmaker in the world. They’ve been hand-making doubles for decades. In that time, they’ve earned a reputation for good-quality guns at fair prices.

The AYA you see here is one of their Anson & Deeley boxlock models. Even though it’s one the company’s least expensive models, it costs around $4995 brand new today.

Lot 10. AYA Grade 4, 20 gauge side by side shotgun, 28″ barrels, Ejectors, Hard Cased, Spain: Serial #552293, mfg. Spain. Excellent condition. Very, very nice AYA 20 ga. side by side on the tiny frame and dainty wrist. 28″ tubes have excellent shiny bores and bluing is 98%+. Choked IC/M. Ejectors. Double triggers. 3″ magnum chambers. Wood is excellent with nice figure and has a modern solid brown pad with white spacer nicely fitted. LOP is 14 1/2″ over pad. Splinter forearm has nice checkering. All matching iron and forearm wood. Case-colored receiver is 97% with slight lower edge wear and one scratch on bottom. Some light scroll work. Tang safety. Dandy quail or dove gun! Elegant and the best of Spanish craftsmanship! Light and dainty!

AYA #2 Sidelock SxS Mfg for Orvis 12 ga No Reserve

The decades now, the AYA No. 2 shotgun has been one of the most highly regarded Spanish shotguns on the market (read reviews of the shotgun in American Rifleman and in Shooting Times).

Why? Because it’s a reliable, well-built sidelock shotgun that combines best-gun features like chopper-lump bbls and hand-detachable locks with an affordable price.

The one you see here is on Gunbroker.com now and the listing ends 12/16/2018 @ 8:00 PM. Because it’s listed at No Reserve, it could end up being a steal. Here’s more info about it from the seller:

AYA #2 Sidelock SxS Mfg for Orvis 12 ga No Reserve: From what I understand, this is a number 2. The number one has higher grade wood. Chambered for up to 3-inch magnum shells. Excellent mirror shiny bores, modified and quarter chokes, 28-inch barrels retaining a conservative 96% finish. it appears that there were two sets of barrels for this side-by-side at one time, as indicated by the number 1 on the barrels. we have tried to locate them with no luck so far. The coloring on the receiver is better than 98%, the engraving is beautiful. The trigger guard is thicker on the right side, set up for right-hand shooting. The bottom of the trigger guard is engraved with three letters, the previous owner’s initials. The stock shows only a few very light handling blemishes and would rate 96%. The leather recoil pad is in excellent condition. LOP is 14 inches to the front trigger. On the forend, there is a very small crack that there will be photographs taken of. It appears to be non-structural. If not for that, it would rate 96%. everything is tight, along with lockup being rock solid. A beautiful double with Nice balance. Weighs exactly 7 pounds.

According to the gunmaker’s website, the AYA No. 2 shotgun is “the pre-eminent “affordable” sidelock double gun, and the most famous model in the AYA line. Since its introduction in the late 1950s, tens of thousands of Nº 2’s have been sold in the United Kingdom, the United States, and everywhere that shooters value the superb balance and handling of a fine double gun.”

Fair enough, and pretty much in line with what I known about these Spanish sidelocks. The one you see here looks like a great deal. While it does have a slight issue (a crack in the stock, right behind the safety), but that should be easy to fix.

Good case coloring on single, select trigger. Metal retains a good amount of case coloring with moderate wear in the usual places. Wood is in good condition with scattered carry and safe marks. Very minimal crack behind top tang but it stops at the checkering. Bluing is in good shape with a few spots of bluing loss, see pics for details. This great little AYA will make for a wonderful quail or close-flushing hunting piece! Price: $2,695

Now this double looks like a great deal. I’m not sure what model AYA it is, but it’s a nice looking gun. And even though it’s smallbore, its 29″ bbls and 14 7/8″ LOP probably give it the heft and swing it takes for big boys to shoot it well.
