John Blanch & Son Cased 12 Ga Back-Action Sidelock 2 3/4″ Chambers: Here is a handsome and unusual back-action sidelock non-ejector by John Blanch & Son, built circa 1896. The gun sports a modern set of 28″ barrels with 2 3/4″ chambers and excellent bores, choked .014/.022 (approximately improved cylinder/modified). The rib is engraved: J. BLANCH & SON. 29 GRACECHURCH STREET. LONDON. The gun locks up tight, and functions properly with snap caps. There are gold-inlaid side-mounted rotary cocking indicators. The trigger-guard (see photo # 14) appears to have been dented, and re-straightened. The engraving is the distinctive flowing vine style found on back-action Blanch guns of the late 1800s. The fore-end features a unique release mechanism (see photo # 11). The stock measures 1 5/8″ x 2 5/8″ x 13 3/4″ with cast off (for a right hand shot). The weight is 6 lbs 5 oz. Comes in a leather case with some cleaning accessories. A fine upland gun from a very good maker. Price: $5,295*

Parker #1 Frame 16 Gauge VHE 28″ SxS with Miller Single Trigger: Parker 16 Gauge VHE 28″, #1 Frame, with single select Miller trigger. According to the Parker book this gun was manufactured as a VHE, 16 Gauge, capped pistol grip stock, with 28″ barrels. At some point someone added a pad to the stock and a Miller single trigger. The D.A.H. is 2-1/2″. LOP is 14-1/4″ to 14-3/8″ depending how you read the tape. Cast is neutral. The right barrel is Modified and the left barrel is Full. Sorry I don’t have a micrometer, just my brass choke gauge. This gun locks up tight. The gun has great original case colors, a very clean bore and is in over all great shape. Stunning Cased Luciano Bosis 20ga Michaelangelo – Lutteroti made vacuum arc barrels & Gold trim and case hardened gun that is visually stunning: Made in 2003, this fantastic little 20ga Luciano Bosis is striking and visually appealing as well as being one of the best guns ever made. This gun, made with 26-3/4″ barrels, made by Lutteroti. The checkered forend with gold accent lined opener. Case hardened and gold lined action with makers name on sides in gold. Beautiful Circassian Walnut buttstock with drop points behind locks is checkered in point pattern through the wrist and terminates with a stunning skip line checkered butt. Housed in a dark brown leather case with stitched leather corners by Nizzoli, is lined in dark green cloth and has large Bosis paper label in lid. Case contains 3-pc walnut and brass cleaning rod with mop and brush, pair of Bosis marked snap caps, round oil bottle, and a small plastic box containing spare mainsprings, spare firing pins, and assembly tool. Overall, the gun remains near mint all original condition. It appears test fired but retains virtually all original finish to both wood and metal surfaces. Bores are brilliant and shiny. Mechanics are crisp. Case is excellent with only minor rubs. Accessories are all near mint. Price: $44,950

BEAUTIFUL CASED PERCUSSION DOUBLE BARREL RIFLE BY JOSEPH BOURNE: Marked “London” on top of the barrel. Gun is in good condition with most original stock varnish. Checkered forearm and wrist shows very little use. Checkered style butt plate with most original bright blue. Patchbox on the side with an engraved deer that has turned a nickel color. Lock plates are marked “Bourne”. Nicely engraved with about 75% case color remaining. The trigger guard is engraved with most original blue thinning some. The 30 inch barrels original brown finish has turned to plum/brown and show a good Damascus pattern. Rifle bores are about 40 caliber and the shotgun barrel is about 14 gauge. Excellent bores. Belgian Browning Super Light Superposed 20 Ga: Consigned to Cole’s is this very nice Belgian Browning Superposed Super Light in 20 ga with 26-inch barrels. The shotgun bears serial # 223PW02990. The bores are excellent. The upper barrel is choked Mod (**) and the lower is choked IC (**-). This shotgun weighs in at 5lbs 14 oz, a true super lightweight. The shotgun has a long tang, straight grip. The LOP is 14 ¾” and terminates with a Decelerator recoil pad. The stock has various minor nicks and dings from days afield. The gun is nice and tight and there is no looseness to be found open or when in battery. The bluing is just starting to flake from the bottom of the receiver from carry. Some very minor loss of factory finish is observed along the tang as well. Again, this from honest use pursuing dove and quail. One of the best I have seen or found out here in a very, very long time. Price: $4650

BEAUTIFULLY MADE DOUBLE BARREL 14 GAUGE PERCUSSION SHOTGUN BY JOHN BLANCH: Gun is nicely done. Beautiful delicate engraving on the locks. Straight grip stock is in good condition with sharp checkering. Some missing wood on the left side forward of the lock. Trigger guard retains most original blue as does the safety release. Barrels are 31 inches and retain most of the bright Damascus pattern. Locks and upper tang retain 60-70% bright blue. A very beautiful gun. Nicely fitted in oak case with cleaning rod, leather shot cap and powder flask. Case has the John Blanch & Sons label inside the lid. A high quality gun. Price: $4,500

Now I know these duelers aren’t doubles, but there are two of them and they are cool. So that’s good enough for me. I’ve always been fascinated by dueling pistols, and this pair of Blanch’s caught my eye when I was up at Poulin Auctions looking over the lots on their Spring 2019 sale.

LOT 3379: JOHN BLANCH CASED FLINTLOCK SET OF DUELING PISTOLS: Cals. both approx. 64. NSN. Bbls. 8″ oct. Bbls. are very attractively patterned w/ top flat marked “London” in script. Engraved bbl. tangs. Silver inlaid single breech bands & touch hole surrounds. Ornately engraved original hammers & locks marked in front of hammers “J. BLANCH”. Locks & hammers show areas of vivid case colors. Dark finished iron trigger guards, entry thimbles & bbl. thimbles. Silver escutcheon plates & bbl. pin escutcheons. Screws are attractively engraved. Wooden ramrods w/ brass tips. Fine checkering surrounds the grips. John Blanch started business in London in the year 1809. This fine pair of guns was likely made early in his career given the fact they remain in original flint. The workmanship is exquisite & the attention to detail astonishing. Many, if not all, original tools & accessories still exist w/ this comprehensive cased set. A name plate attached to the inside center of the box reads “J.R.F. BURNETT VAUXHALL.” likely the original owner of this fine set. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wooden case containing an ebony mallet, tin containing extra flints, brass lead ladle w/ screw-on ebony handle, bullet mold, sm. knife, powder flask, wad cutter, ivory & steel touch hole cleaner, spring clamp, approx. 30 rnd. lead balls, ebony cleaning & loading tools, 2 paper wrapped cartridges, oiler, ebony pan brush, ebony handled screw driver & other various tools & appendages. The case measures 17 3/4″ x 10 3/4″ x 3″. It has a rnd. brass escutcheon on the top & an interior name plate. The inside is lined in emerald green cloth that appears original to the set. CONDITION: pistols generally show very light use w/ minor dings & scratches to the wood. Most metal parts show original finish w/ no oxidation or notable wear. Near excellent bores. Accessories show use but have been well cared for during this set’s nearly 200 year life. (01-15763/BF). ESTIMATE: $2,500-5,000

William Young, Bury St Edmunds, S’folk. Exceptional 19-bore double barreled flintlock sporting gun, ca. 1815: Weight: 5 Lbs. 15 oz. Superb 30” Damascus barrels retaining much of an original brown finish have excellent bores which appear to be unaltered from their original boring. Stepped-in breeches with platinum touch hole liners retain much of the original hardening color and show little evidence of use. One of the gold breech poincon is a replacement. Extremely fine locks show little use and feather springs retain traces of the original fire blue from being “drawn” after tempering. Stock shows lots of minor handling marks but retains virtually all of the original varnish. Original ramrod. Overall in beautiful , little used, condition retaining a fair amount of original finish throughout and in superb mechanical condition. Extremely fast ignition comparable in lock time to the best British maker’s of the day. This gun (each barrel) will still place 37% of a 1 oz. load of #6 shot on a 22”x 32” sheet of paper at 43 yds. using 2 ¼ drams of Goex fffg powder (1100 ft/sec). Compare that performance with your favorite modern sporting gun ….. you might be surprised at the results! These late British flintlock-era double guns are quite rare in this condition and you would be hard pressed to find a better example. Price: POR

Winchester Model 21 12 gauge SxS shotgun

Winchester Model 21 12 gauge: The classic American made SxS shotgun that was ultimate in durability is the hallmark of the Winchester Model 21. This particular gun represents the earliest configuration: Double triggers and extractors (non-ejector). The barrels are 30″, solid rib and choked M/F but they actually measure .010 (IC) and .035 (Full), the bores are mirror bright and there is a very slight “ding” in the right tube about 10 3/4″ from the muzzle. The semi pistol grip buttstock has a 14″ LOP to the original butt plate, 1 9/16″, DAC and 2 9/16″ DAH, no cast. Matching splinter forend. All finishes are 100% original. Barrels and action retain 90-95% blue with various small amounts of surface rust evident. The forearm iron and the trigger guard show the most use with both pieces taking on a brown patina and noticeable blue wear on the forearm extension. The wood finishes also rate in the 90-95% range with no significant wear just the normal handling marks from 80 years or use. The action and barrels are very tight and on face with the top lever still noticably right of center. Serial number 2660 made in early 1935. Price: $3850

BERETTA 411 EJECTOR – 12 GAUGE SIDE BY SIDE – STRAIGHT GRIP – VINTAGE GUN: Here is excellent condition vintage Beretta 411 in 12 gauge from 1952. Nice engraving. Double under bite with hidden Greener style third fastener. Unengraved stock oval. Barrels are 27 5/8″. Bores as original at .728 with 23/1000 choke (Modified) in the right barrel at 727 with 32/1000 choke (Full) for the left barrel. Chambers at 2 3/4″. Mirror bores. Ejectors perfectly timed. No cracks in the wood. Tight on face. Anson style forend fastening system. Straight grip stock with long trigger guard tang. Double boarder checkering pattern.
