Best Quality Louis Brancquaert #5 Hammer 12 gauge sidelock pigeon gun with 30″ Chopper lump fluid steel barrels

Best Quality Louis Brancquaert #5 Hammer 12 gauge sidelock pigeon gun with 30″ Chopper lump fluid steel barrels: Full coverage banknote scroll with Brancquaert marking on bottom of frame, probably executed by H. Corombelle, the top Belgian engraver in this time period(1900-1910). Hidden Purdey style third fastener, sideclips, figured French walnut with no splits or cracks, original 2 5/8″ chambers, perfect bores that mike Left: .726, MWT= .028, choke=. .031″ Right: .726, MWT= .029″, choke=. 020″. Wall thickness 9″ Left= .042″ Right= .044″. Weight of gun is 7lbs. 5 ozs. Stock dimensions are 14″ LOP to a checkered butt over a  piece of walnut added to change pitch., 1 3/4″ DAC, 1 7/8″ DAH, with 3/8″ cast off for the right hand. My guess is that it may have been originally built for a woman, hence the odd original pitch. SN is 908.974. DeFourney built these guns for Brancquaert and the SN reflects this fact. The bluing appears original as barrel lettering is very sharp and there is fading case color on action, but metal is very clean and engraving sharp. Hammers are the late style low profile used on the post 1900 guns. This is a very seldom seen best quality hammer model built at the tail end of the live pigeon era. Price: $7,650*

Fabbri Best Grade "Funeral" Sidelock 12 ga. O/U Shotgun
Fabbri Best Grade “Funeral” Sidelock 12 ga. O/U Shotgun

Fabbri Best Grade “Funeral” Sidelock 12 ga. O/U Shotgun: Fabbri Best Grade “Funeral” Gold Line Sidelock 12 gauge O/U shotgun.  Masterfully hand-made in 1972 by Armi Fabbri this “pigeon” configured O/U comes with two original 30” sets of Bohler Super Blitz steel barrels. Both sets are identical in that they are fitted with “flat” vent ribs that taper from 7/16” to 5/16” and have brass front and mid beads. The set marked “I” is choked .020” Modified and .035” Full.  Set “II” is choked .035” Full and .043” XXFull. The sidelock receiver was engraved by Italian master engraver Ferruccio Iora in the minimalistic “Funeral” style which features very fine, and very difficult to execute gold wire on a “black” finished frame.  In the case of this gun “less is more” as you will surely agree, this is a splendid looking Fabbri. The stock and forearm were fashioned from a beautiful piece of walnut.  The forearm is fitted with an Anson style push button release.  The buttstock has a right-hand palm swell.  As the presents it has a 14 ¾” LOP over several spacers and a recoil pad.  The DAC is 1 3/8” and the DAH is 1 3/8” with about ¼” right hand cast.  Although the dimensions are very shootable, you will agree that a new stock is in order.  Tulio Fabbri estimates $10k to restock the gun by the factory.  Whereas it could be professionally restocked here in the states for considerably less money! Of course, this is a Fabbri which indicates it is one of the very best guns in the world from both a materials standpoint and from a fit and finish perspective! The gun weighs 7 lbs. 11 oz., and balances beautifully.  Overall condition is 98%+. In all regards this is one of the finest guns in the world and this very gun would be approximately $200k to replace.  Cased in maker’s leather luggage case. SN:  E463 Price: $75,000*

There is 1 ¼” DAC with 2” DAH and right-hand cast of ¼” at the heel and 3/8” at the toe.  Up front is a matching beavertail forearm. Double triggers, automatic/selective ejectors, non-automatic safety. The gun weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz. and balances just on the back half of the hinge pin. Anson style push button forearm release. The barrel blue and trigger guard blue retain 99% original finish. The frames case colors are deep and dark with just traces of were on the outer edges. The wood has 97% finishes with a few light handling marks and a small “ding” at the toe along with a small rub spot on the left side of the forearm checkering. As all Fabbri shotguns, this is an exceptional piece of engineering.  It is truly a “best” quality SxS shotgun in spectacular condition for being 51 years old! Price: $36,500

Truly Exceptional L.C. Smith Crown Grade 20ga with original hang tag - A&F gun in superb all original condition:
Truly Exceptional L.C. Smith Crown Grade 20ga with original hang tag – A&F gun in superb all original condition:

Truly Exceptional L.C. Smith Crown Grade 20ga with original hang tag – A&F gun in superb all original condition: Truly superb and all original L.C. Smith Crown Grade 20ga.  Easily the finest example of this grade and configuration I have handled.  Made in 1922 and shipped to Abercrombie and Fitch.  Made with 28″ barrels, Hunter One SST, splinter forend, capped pistol grip buttstock with original buttplate.  Accompanying the gun is the original hang tag from Abercrombie which shows the gun exactly as found today.  Beautifully engraved with scroll and game scenes on sides and fantastically executed gold crown in top lever.  Stocks show excellent grain and color and are sound.

Overall, the gun remains in excellent to near mint original condition with more than 95% bold original case color remaining.  Barrels retain more than 97% original blue.  Stocks are excellent with only minor handling marks, most notably a couple of old impressions but the right side of the top tang, but otherwise excellent to near mint with nearly all of their original finish remaining.  Buttplate is near mint.  Bores are brilliant and shiny.  Mechanics are crisp and the gun appears very little used and very well taken care of.  It comes with its original hang tag and LCSCA research letter confirming the gun as found today. This is a gem of a Smith small bore.  If you like investment grade Amerian doubles – this is it! Price: $28,950

Online auction alert: 20g Beretta BL-4, 28″ bbls …

Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28" Barrels
Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28″ Barrels

I’m always on the lookout for deals, and this 20g Beretta BL-4 looks like a good one to me. It’s on Gunbroker.com now and the online auction ends tomorrow, 4/19, @ 10:01 PM.

Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28" Barrels
Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28″ Barrels

Upside: I think it’s in great shape, it looks like it has a nice, long LOP thanks to the professionally-installed pad. It also has 28″ barrels, 3″ chambers, and ejectors.

Downside: The opening bid is $1,295. So not a steal, but a deal.

Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28" Barrels
Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28″ Barrels

Beretta’s BL-grade shotguns were imported from Italy by the Garcia Corp in the ’60s and through the ’70s. They feature a shallow, low profile action scaled to match the gauge and they were build to be rugged, reliable doubles that delivered a lot of quality for the money.

Beretta BL-4 20 Gauge 28″ Barrels: Choked light mod / Mod. The chokes were opened up from Mod / Full and a recoil pad installed by Briley Mfg in 2012. The LOP is 15 inches. The cast and drop were not adjusted. We do not know if the gold leaf on the action is factory original or not. It was present when the gun was purchased from an estate in 2010. The gun is in excellent condition and has been fired very little since it was acquired from the /estate. The action is tight and on the face.

Westley Richards 12 Bore S/S – BOXLOCK, EJECTORS WESTLEY SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER, 28”, NICE!

Westley Richards 12 Bore S/S – BOXLOCK, EJECTORS WESTLEY SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER, 28”, NICE!This sweet little Westley Richards BLE is a great example of a fine British shotgun at a very affordable price.  A Birmingham proofed gun made in or around 1904, snO8605 weighs a svelte 6 1/2 pounds with 28” barrels and is balanced dead on the hinge pin.  This is one of the guns you hand to a shooter as you are trying to explain why the Brits have always had the most dynamic guns…they just feel right in your hands.  For those who like a single selective trigger, the Westley Richards “One Trigger” is amongst the best ever devised and works like a dream.  Few British guns have SELECTIVE single triggers and this is a very rare option.  Mechanically perfect in every way, with excellent bores, lots of wall thickness, still in proof with HEAVY 1 1/4OZ. PROOF STAMPINGS, lots of wear to the original factory finishes but still tight on hinge pin and breech face, the gun is ready for several more generations of use.  Choked just right for upland birds and sporting clays, great stock dimensions, and a great price, this is your chance to own a British gun with a very notable maker’s name.  Thanks for looking. Price: $3,750

HOLLOWAY 28 BORE- JENKINSON in N.Y. IMPORT- MADE in 1952- REMAINS in 99% OVERALL COND.- EXC. ENGLISH DETAIL & WORKMANSHIP- NICE PIECE:
#700 Holloway, G & S: A 28 Bore English Boxlock Ejector Game Gun that was imported by B. (Bob) Jenkinson, New York, N. Y. and so marked, Jenkinson imported a fair number of English guns in the 50’s & 60’s and I believe nearly all were made by Holloway, This 28 Bore was made in 1952, 26″ dovetail lump barrels at .550 .013 & .016″ (Mod. & Imp. Mod.), Original 2 3/4″ chambers, Proved in Birmingham at 3/4 ounce, Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Straight hand stock at 14 3/4 x 1 1/2 x 2 1/4″ over a checkered butt, Slight cast-off with a swept comb that points like a dream, 28 bore weight at 5 lbs. 1 oz., 60% coverage of English scroll, Nice wood, The original barrel blue at 99%, The gun retains 98% original bright & vivid case colors, The stock finish is original and at 99%, The checkering at 100%, The blue on the floorplate, trigger guard, trigger guard tang and forend metal is 99%, The bores are as new from breech to muzzle, The gun is smack on the face with plenty of bite, The barrels ring with a nice chime. This is flat out one nice 1952 English boxlock with excellent workmanship on both the metal & wood. The stock inletting is superb and the checkering is as well cut as you will find on any English Best Sidelock. This is like buying it new in 1952. The Jenkinson serial # is 700 and the Holloway # is 22734. /////////////////////////////////// Holloway & Co. has been around since the 19th century. They had premises at 10-12 & 14 Vesey Street in Birmingham. In 1901 Tommy Naughton was the manager at Holloway & Co. and he bought the firm and it became Holloway & Naughton Ltd. but they continued business separately. G & S (George & Sidney) Holloway were for the most part makers to the trade and maintained an excellent reputation before and after WWII. About 1978 production of new Holloway guns was dropped but they continued with repairs. Graham Clive Holloway of G & S Holloway died in February of 1994 and that was the end of an era for G & S Holloway. To this day Holloway & Naughton shotguns are still made and manufactured to the client’s individual requirements and they can be found at hollowaynaughton.co.uk B. (Bob) Jenkinson was a dealer in many Holloway made guns during the 1950’s & 1960’s in New York City. Price: $8,500
