Fabbri Best Grade "Funeral" Sidelock 12 ga. O/U Shotgun
Fabbri Best Grade “Funeral” Sidelock 12 ga. O/U Shotgun

Fabbri Best Grade “Funeral” Sidelock 12 ga. O/U Shotgun: Fabbri Best Grade “Funeral” Gold Line Sidelock 12 gauge O/U shotgun.  Masterfully hand-made in 1972 by Armi Fabbri this “pigeon” configured O/U comes with two original 30” sets of Bohler Super Blitz steel barrels. Both sets are identical in that they are fitted with “flat” vent ribs that taper from 7/16” to 5/16” and have brass front and mid beads. The set marked “I” is choked .020” Modified and .035” Full.  Set “II” is choked .035” Full and .043” XXFull. The sidelock receiver was engraved by Italian master engraver Ferruccio Iora in the minimalistic “Funeral” style which features very fine, and very difficult to execute gold wire on a “black” finished frame.  In the case of this gun “less is more” as you will surely agree, this is a splendid looking Fabbri. The stock and forearm were fashioned from a beautiful piece of walnut.  The forearm is fitted with an Anson style push button release.  The buttstock has a right-hand palm swell.  As the presents it has a 14 ¾” LOP over several spacers and a recoil pad.  The DAC is 1 3/8” and the DAH is 1 3/8” with about ¼” right hand cast.  Although the dimensions are very shootable, you will agree that a new stock is in order.  Tulio Fabbri estimates $10k to restock the gun by the factory.  Whereas it could be professionally restocked here in the states for considerably less money! Of course, this is a Fabbri which indicates it is one of the very best guns in the world from both a materials standpoint and from a fit and finish perspective! The gun weighs 7 lbs. 11 oz., and balances beautifully.  Overall condition is 98%+. In all regards this is one of the finest guns in the world and this very gun would be approximately $200k to replace.  Cased in maker’s leather luggage case. SN:  E463 Price: $75,000*

Miroku L-II 12-bore Boxlock English Stock like Browning BSS but BETTER
Miroku L-II 12-bore Boxlock English Stock like Browning BSS but BETTER

Miroku L-II 12-bore Boxlock English Stock like Browning BSS but BETTER: For sale is a super nice Miroku L-II boxlock. This sleek 12-bore features a classic Anson and Deeley type boxlock action made popular by the Birmingham, England guntrade. Miroku is the maker of the Browning BSS and this is a cousin to that gun. Basically, its the same gun made in the same factory by the craftsman with a different name on it… But this Miroku is much better finished! This Miroku was intended for the European market and was purchased by a military man serving overseas. These European offerings are much better finished guns than the Browning versions in my opinion. This particular model looks like the classic English boxlock. The color cased action is nicely shaped and beautifully hand engraved with well-cut scroll engraving. The 28″ barrels are well struck and are choked IMP/FULL… a classic English choke combination. They’re topped with a flat rib and are balanced by a walnut stock classically configured with straight grip, splinter forend, and hand-cut checkering. The butt is finished with a silvers recoil pad. This shotgun is in great condition. The bores are clean, and barrel walls are free from dents. The stocks oil finish is still good and the stock is solid (though it does have a repaired crack from fall on a quail hunt 15 years ago. Many hundreds of rounds have been fired since that time with no issue). As you would expect, the gun functions perfectly. The lock up is rock solid, and the trigger pulls are nice and crisp. This quality gun is ready to provide a lifetime of reliable use to it new owner. Maker: Miroku, Model: L-II, Barrels: 28″, Chokes: IMP/FULL, Weight: 6lbs 12oz, DAC: 1 3/8″, DAH: 2 5/16″, LOP: 14 3/8″ over silvers pad, Cast: appears to be neutral. Price: $1,950

The finest Parker Bros. AH 10ga extant! Near mint all original lightweight gun made on a #2 Frame with orig 30″ barrels – appears test fired only:  One of just 14 made in this configuration – this rare early gun made on a #2 frame (very rare in 10ga) with 30″ Finest Damascus barrels.  This gun, made in 1890, was the highest grade gun made at the time and was made with original splinter forend, double triggers, extractors, and beautifully engraved skeleton buttplate.  This gun is absolutely 100% full coverage engraved, most certainly by W.H. Gough, and perhaps a detailed inspection will unveil his occasionally found and very elusive signature.  The gun is engraved with no less than 3 dogs on the bottom of the frame and 4 birds in a scene on the trigger plate, two more towards forend, two dogs on trigger guard bow with full scroll engraving, double dogs on right side with serpentine “PARKER BROS.” surrounded by full scroll, dog scenes on each of the breech balls, and double dogs on left, again with serpentine makers name surrounded by full scroll engraving.  The gun has its original engraved and blued skeleton buttplate.  Stocked with incredible straight grained European Walnut stocks which are beautifully checkered as seen in the photos.  All stampings are factory correct and original in every respect. This gun remains in spectacular original condition- nearly unheard of for one of these early guns.  The gun retains more than 95% bold vivid original case color throughout.  Stocks are excellent and sound with virtually all of their original hand rubbed finish with only minor handling marks throughout.  Trigger guard retains more than 80% original blue.  The buttplate retains more than 60% of its original high luster blue.  The breechface shows almost no signs of a shell ring from firing.  The barrels retain about 95% of their dark bold original pattern with only minor spotting towards the right breech as seen in the photos.  Bores are brilliant and shiny and the mechanics are crisp.  This gun matches it’s PGCA letter as seen in the photos. This exceptional “Best in Class” Parker is priced at $47,500 and can be shipped directly to your door as an antique.  If you desire the very best – look no further – this is it.  This gun is as fresh as a spring daisy having never been offered for sale publicly.

Parker VH 20g 26" original...high condition
Parker VH 20g 26″ original…high condition

Parker VH 20g 26″ original…high condition: 26” solid rib barrels choke IC/F.  Double triggers, automatic safety, late Parker gun.  Capped pistol grip stock with 13 7/8” LOP over the dogs head butt plate, 1 5/8” DAC and 2 ½” DAH; splinter forearm. The frame is bright from carrying but there is at least 80% muted case colors, original barrel blue is excellent; trigger guard has only traces of blue.  Wood varnish appears to be original and there is on small repair at the rear of the top tang. The barrels have .618” bore diameters where .615 is standard so I will assume that the bores were lightly polished by .003” with nominal wall thickness of .027”.  “0” frame. So, this is a very nice, high condition VH 20…ready for upland hunting and as a great addition to your collection.  Made in 1935 and is exactly as specified in the Parker Gun Id book. The side-by-side, double-barrel shotgun you see here is one of the icons of American gunmaking.

VERY RARE AH GRADE PARKER 12 GAUGE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN AT MERZANTIQUES.COM
VERY RARE AH GRADE PARKER 12 GAUGE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN AT MERZANTIQUES.COM

It’s a Parker Bros A.H.-quality with ejectors (which makes it an A.H.E.) and ACME fluid steel barrels. Back when it was built in 1917, it was Parker’s third-best gun, two down from the top-of-the-line A1 Special and a single step below the company’s famous AAH-quality shotguns.

Parker AH Grade Shotgun, page from a Parker catalog, from parkerguns.org
Parker AH Grade Shotgun, page from a Parker catalog, from parkerguns.org

As you can imagine, it was expensive in its day. It cost more than most guys took home in six months, and that’s one big reason why Parker only built a total of 306 AH-grade shotguns. They were just too expensive for most folks.

But if you had the money ($250 in the 1920s), you could buy yourself a great looking gun.

This Parker is in beautiful shape with 85-90% bright case colors on the frame. Bottom of the receiver retains just traces of case color. The trigger guard is nicely engraved with a dog and has traces of blue remaining. Bottom of the receiver has a beautifully done dog with a bird in it’s mouth and a running deer. Both sides of the receiver are game scene engraved. Quite delicately done. Gun has the correct splinter forearm as well automatic ejectors. Has never been on the market before. Gun weighs 7pounds 5 ounces. Price: $ 41,500.

Auction alert: 16g Parker GHE, No Reserve ….

1931 Parker Brothers GHE 16 Gauge SxS 28" Shotgun
1931 Parker Brothers GHE 16 Gauge SxS 28″ Shotgun

Classic. American. Grouse gun. Here it is, and it’s on Gunbroker.com now, being auctioned off at no reserve. The listing ends 11/4/2018 @ 8:43 PM.

The Parker GHE (a quality GH gun with Ejectors), was a lower, middle-grade gun in its day. Parker called it “a gun of exceptional value,” so it wasn’t cheap, but it offered a lot of nice features at a fair price.

1931 Parker Brothers GHE 16 Gauge SxS 28" Shotgun
1931 Parker Brothers GHE 16 Gauge SxS 28″ Shotgun

This one is in what I would called “honest wear” condition. It looks like it was shot a lot, and a lot of the original finish is gone. There’s a pronounced crack in the forend, too. But that crack looks fixable and the rest of the gun looks sound.

1931 Parker Brothers GHE 16 Gauge SxS 28″ Shotgun

1931 Parker Brothers GHE 16 Gauge SxS 28″ Shotgun: This Parker Brothers shotgun shows a Serial Number of: 235828. Length of Pull measures 13.5″ to back trigger. Length of Pull measures 14.5 to the forward trigger. Manufacture date is listed as 1931. This classic representation has Upland Game Scenes engraved on the frame. Barrel length is listed at 28″. In the select world of vintage American double barrel shotguns, the name Parker Brothers stands in a class of their own. The Parker Gun Collectors Association has done a great job fostering knowledge on these fine guns, which many believe to be America’s finest. This GHE shows:

  • Serial Stamp is 235828.
  • Frame Size “1”
  • “16/1” on the barrel lug
  • Barrel flat shows 3 1 indicating barrel weight.
  • Watertable is stamped GH indicating grade.
  • Barrel is stamped “Special Steel”
  • Watertable is stamped “2”

This 1931 example is in very fine condition showing a proud degree of the original blue finish and case coloring. The select grade American hardwood stock and forearm show a rich texture and grain profile. The original dog’s head buttplate is featured and also remains in excellent condition. The lettering and engraving and screws are all in superb condition and look clocked properly along the axis of the gun. The triggers are crisp and break clean. There are fewer and fewer 16ga. Parkers with 28” Parker Special Steel barrels remaining original condition. The forearm shows small imperfections but remains solid throughout. A most gorgeous Parker Brother SXS Shotgun for your consideration. We have opened the gun and photographed the internal proofs in detail.

Good gun alert: 12g Parker VH SxS, 1 1/2 frame …

12g Parker VH 12ga Side by Side shotgun, #172487: Price: $2,500.00

I’m going to out on a limb here and say this 12g Parker VH is a nice double. While the seller doesn’t say much about the gun, it gun looks pretty original and appears to be in OK shape. Sure it has some honest wear, but that adds to the gun’s charm.

12g Parker VH 12ga Side by Side shotgun, #172487: Price: $2,500.00

First, it’s a 12g on a 1 1/2 frame. Standard 12g Parkers come on No. 2 frames. That’s why they’re heavy — usually 7.5lbs+ — and too much gun for the hunting I do. The 1 1/2 frame is smaller than the 2, and twelves built on it can be a half-pound lighter. That means this Parker could weigh under 7lbs–which light for a 12g VH.

Second, it doesn’t have ejectors — which is good. Upland hunters don’t need them, and Parker ejectors aren’t great. Not having them on a SxS  makes this gun reliable and it makes it weigh a bit less.

‘Friggin WOW. An incredible 28g Parker BHE side by side…

Parker Bros. BHE, 28ga, original 26" Acme Steel barrels. Double triggers, automatic ejectors, and automatic safety. 1916. 1 of 4 made. Here’s a double you don’t see every day–and may never see again.

It’s a 28 gauge Parker BHE built in 1916. When it was made, Quality B.H. guns were the 4th down in the company’s lineup, below the A. No. 1 Special, the A.A.H., and the A.H. (the first Invincible was completed in 1923).

Parker only made 1,034 B.H. grade guns. That’s not many, especially for a company that built 247,000+ doubles in all. Most of those B.H. grades were 12s. As it says below, only four were 28 gauges.

Parker Bros. BHE, 28ga, original 26″ Acme Steel barrels. Double triggers, automatic ejectors, and automatic safety. 1916. 1 of 4 made.  “00” frame. Double triggers, automatic ejectors, and automatic safety.  The gun is fabulously engraved with scroll and floral pattern – a special order feature. It has 2-7/8″ original chambers with excellent bright shiny bores, measuring .563 right and .557 left. Full length matted top rib with proper original Acme barrel legend.  The gun has a capped pistol grip, inlaid with a gold cap and a large “H” engraved on the cap. Original skeleton buttplate with traces of original blue remaining. Stock dimensions in the factory letter are LOP of 14-1/4″ with drop-at-comb of 1-3/4″ and drop-at-heel of 3-1/8″.  The gun has these exact specifications today. Weight is 5lbs 7oz – exactly as found in the PGCA letter.  Barrel blue is excellent and all original and appears to be in the 75% range. Price: $59,500

Parker VH Grade 20 Gauge Double Shotgun, 26 Inch Barrels, Very Rare with Original Box
Parker VH Grade 20 Gauge Double Shotgun, 26 Inch Barrels, Very Rare with Original Box

Say you  a new shotgun. Would you use it, or stash it away — forever?

For some reason, whoever bought this 20g Parker VH back in 1921 for around $60 decided “stash it away — forever” was the way to go. And this week, 96 years later, it came out of hiding and sold for $14,750.

Quality V.H. shotguns were built to be “…strictly high-grade gun at a very low price–the best-made gun of its grade ever produced”. Hunters bought 78,670 of them and made the VH Parker’s most popular model.

Today, VHs are the most common Parkers out there. But how many of them all original, brand new, in their original box, with their original tags, like this one? Very, very few. That’s why some collector paid so much money for it.

Minty Parker VH Grade 20 Gauge Double Shotgun, with Original Box & Tags. Sold for $14,750.
Minty Parker VH Grade 20 Gauge Double Shotgun, with Original Box & Tags. Sold for $14,750.

Parker VH Grade 20 Gauge Double Shotgun, 26 Inch Barrels, Very Rare with Original Box and Hang TagsIt is not often that we have the opportunity to sell a firearm as special as this Parker.  In all the years we have been in the firearms business, neither we or any of the other dealers we have talked with have ever had an original box and hang-tags with a Parker Shotgun.  The 1921 vintage shotgun is a Vulcan Grade 20 Gauge with 26 inch barrels that is built on the lightweight O frame.  It is in the best condition we have seen in years with nearly 100% original blue and 95%+ original case colors, with the only wear apparent on the gun is a small loss of case colors and small dark staining spots on the sides of the breeches of the receiver, probably from “box wear”.  The bores are mint and the wood is nearly flawless, with only a couple of very small handling marks in the finish.  This is probably the nicest 20 Gauge Parker most people would ever see, and it is made extra special by having its original box and hang tags.  This is undoubtedly a “once in a lifetime” chance to own a very unique Parker Side-by-Side. PRICE: $14,750 — SOLD

Wow! What a Parker: 20g BHE, 32″ bbls, straight grip…

Parker BHE SxS 20 gauge 32" barrels, Straight Grip
Parker BHE SxS 20 gauge 32″ barrels, Straight Grip

If you’re a Parker fanatic with deep pockets, grab your check book. Here’s a super rare one, and even though it’s 100 years old, it looks like this side-by-side remains in incredible original condition.

According to the Parker collector’s site, Parker Bros made just over 1,000 BH-grades (which are Quality Bs without hammers — BH). I imagine very, very few of those were 20 gauges with 32″ barrels, ejectors (the E in BHE) and straight grips.

Parker BHE SxS 20 gauge 32" barrels, Straight Grip
Parker BHE SxS 20 gauge 32″ barrels, Straight Grip

Parker BHE SxS 20 gauge 32″ barrelsVery rare, highly collectable 1916 Parker BHE (serial #174053) with straight stock and 32″ barrels. This Parker remains in high original condition with very good stock, B engraved receiver and Acme steel barrels. It is apparent that this shotgun has likely spent a lot of it’s 100 year old life tucked away in someone’s safe, leg-o-mutton gun case or closet. Shotguns of this quality rarely come up for as they are usually socked away in someone’s collection for many years and then passed on to family members, never to be seen by the general public. The consignor, after only a brief ownership, brought this Parker to me with hopes of alleviating homefront tensions. This little SxS features a straight stock, 32″ barrels with shiney bores, ejectors (which work with authority), “0” frame and double triggers. All desireable options for any SxS, but especially a high grade Parker. LOP is at 13 7/8″, DAC is 1 1/2″, DAH is 2 3/4″ and it weighs in at 6 lb 8 oz. Both bores measure .618 with .018 constriction on the right barrel and .024 on the left. Lock up is Parker tight and there is no movement between the barrels and the receiver with the forearm off. This is a seldom seen opportunity to own a high grade Parker. Also included with this Parker is the original leg-o-mutton case that A.T. DeForest bought for it. Price: P.O.R.
