When I was a kid, I lusted for one of these. I’m certain the guys counter at L.L. Bean’s old hunting store were sick of me asking to see one every time I was in there (which was a lot). Eventually I bought one, and I’ve had a 686 in my safe for 20+ years now. From Maine to Montana, I’ve killed everything from ruffed grouse and huns to pheasants with one, and I’ve never had a mechanical issue of been let down.

Here’s your chance to get a deal on one of my favorite OUs. The Beretta 686 is the first double-barrel shotgun I lusted after. With it’s simple, Onyx-colored action, it’s a sexy gun. It’s also a gun that’s reliable and great handling.

These Beretta over-unders are tough guns to beat. They handle well, they’re well made, they’re durable, and they’re easy to fix. With its open chokes inserted, this one can handle steel shot, too. I’ve seen these sell for $1500+. If you can get it for less than, you’ve got a deal.
Here’s more about it from the dealer who is selling it:

Here’s one of the all-time great doubles – and one of the best bird guns you’ll ever find.
Beretta introduced the 686 Onyx around ’88 and built them until around ’99 or so. In that time, the gun gained a reputation for being a rugged, reliable OU that handled well and was easy to maintain and repair. I saw my first one in the mid ’90s and couldn’t get it out of my head. Like the one for sale here, it had a straight stock and its matte-black finished looked so ‘friggin cool.

Here’s your chance to get one of the all-time great shotguns: A 20 gauge Beretta 686 Onyx OU. If you’re an upland hunter looking for solid, do-it-all double barrel, this is it.
Beretta introduced the 686 Onyx in the ’80s and made them into early 2000. These shotguns are built on a simple, time-tested design and feature trigger-plate style actions.
I saw my first 686 one in the ’90s and fell in love right away. Its matte-black finish made it look both utilitarian and elegant. I think it cost $1200–a fortune for a kid just out of college and heading into the world with a BA in English.
Since then, I’ve shot some of the finest — and priciest — doubles in the world. Are they better than this gun? Absolutely. But does a $75,000 Boss feel 50x nicer than a 686 Onyx? I’m not so sure.
This ones comes in its original box and includes 2 choke tubes. It’s on Gunbroker.com now with an opening bid of $1200 and No Reserve. The listing ends on 4/14/2018 @ 1:07 PM

With two set of barrels, 26.5″ and 29.5″, and a price tag of just $1699.99, this one is extra special. That’s why I’m saying someone needs to buy this gun. If someone else doesn’t snatch it up soon, I just might be the one to do it.

To me, beauty and function is what this 20 gauge Beretta Onyx is all about. With it’s matte-black finish and it’s figured wood, it’s one of the best looking — and best shooting — grouse guns you’re going to find.
I’ve always loved matte-black Beretta 686 Onyx OUs.If the original ones had any problems, it’s was their wood: It was as figured as a 2×4. This 686 has solved that problem by upgrading the buttstock and forend with some fantastic walnut. It’s on Gunbroker.com now and the listing ends Sunday, 9/18/2016 @ 9:42 PM.
Beretta 686 Onyx OU 20 Gauge 28″ Custom Walnut: This is a “Custom Stocked” Beretta model 686 Onyx field grade over/under shotgun in 20 gauge. The barrels are 28 long with 3″ chambers. The gun comes with 4 choke tubes and a choke wrench. The “English” style stock and forearm were replacement select walnut from Cole’s Gunsmithing. The gun has single select trigger with ejectors. The selector is with the top tang safety. The metal is excellent with light wear to the bluing on the bottom left on the fore arm metal. The wood is in VG+ to excellent condition with one nick left side center by the recoil pad. there is a few light scratches on the bottom center of the stock.
Just in time for the coming bird season! Here are two great looking doubles that on Gunbroker.com right now. If you’re looking for a lot of quality for very little money, take your pick. You can’t go wrong with either shotgun.
The Miroku is a great double, and probably one of the best deals you’ll ever find in a quality SxS. These guns are well made, and the handle like SxS costing many times more. I’ve only seen a few with color-case hardened actions and double triggers. What a nice SXS!
The Beretta is a 686 Onyx with 28″ bbls — a tough combo to find — and one of the greatest set ups you’ll ever come across for grouse & woodcock.
Miroku Model M SxS English Stock, DT, 28″ 12ga: For sale is a Miroku Model M side by side English style shotgun. This gun was never imported to the United States, so it was likely brought home from Japan by an American GI in the 60’s. IT IS NOT A CHARLES DALY, but Gunbroker does not let you list under “Miroku”, and the gun is functionally similar to the Daly 500, using the same receiver and chopper lump barrels, but with an English stock and splinter forend. The gun is in very good shape, with minor blueing rubbing and case color loss, as pictured. No cracks in the stock, and no pitting in the metal. Bores are bright and shiny, and the action is tight, with the lever just right of center.

I know, another 686. Blah, blah, blah. But this one is different, I swear. How? It has a color-case hardened action, something I’ve never seen on a 686 from Beretta. I really like the looks of it – even though the wood stinks. If it were mine, I would class it up a bit with a new custom wood set from Cole Gunsmithing.

I love Beretta’s 686 Black Onyx O/Us . Close your eyes and put a 686 to your shoulder; swap it for a Boss O/U and do the same. The differences are slight. Believe me, I’ve done it many times.
But even though 686s feel great, they do have a weak spot: the wood. Plywood is more exciting to look it. So when Orvis developed their Uplander version of the 686, what did they do? They stocked them in fine walnut. Then they jacked up the price.
New, these I don’t think Orvis’s Uplanders were worth the money. But used, they can be good deals. If you can get this 20g Orvis Uplander for $2999, you will have paid a fair price for an awesome gun. Here’s more about this O/U from the seller. This gun is on Gunbroker.com now, and the listing ends 7/13/2014 @ 3:16:17 PM ET.
Orvis Upland/ Beretta 686 Black Onyx Double Barrel, O.U Shotgun: 20 ga., engraved boxlock action with sideplates, 28 in. VR barrels with choke tubes, SST, straight grip, select American black walnut with 24 LPI checkering, leather covered recoil pad, 6-7 lbs. Mfg. by P. Beretta of Italy. This shotgun is in excellent shape with no scratches or dents anywhere. The barrel looks like it hasn’t had any rounds through it. If you are looking for a premier shotgun this one would be it for you.
Here’s a great deal on a great grouse gun. You can spend a lot more on an O/U and get a lot less gun.
Beretta 686 Onyx 20ga/28″ Multichoke (USED)-– Factory original and in good condition overall with only light handling. This gun has a satin blue finish and satin finished walnut stock with factory installed choke tubes. Price: $1,395
Here’s an OK deal on a real nice over-under shotgun. These Orvis/Beretta Uplander are 686s with fancy wood, and most of the ones I see have 26″ bbls.
This one has that extra 2″ so many guys want these days. Even though the gun is a bit pricey (and the online description is lousy), I bet it will sell quickly.
Orvis/Beretta 20g Uplander 28 barrels: Screw-in chokes, and 3″ chambers. Maybe never fired.
Here’s a double you rarely see. It’s a sxs 20ga Beretta 626 Onyx, and it’s up for auction now, with the listing ending tomorrow, 12/24/2013, @ 6:22:43 PM ET.
From the info I’ve found, it looks like Beretta offered 20 gauge 626s from 1985-1987. I can’t imagine the company made many of them.
20ga Beretta 626 Onyx Side-by-Side, 28″ bbls: These guns are rare to begin with and the 28″ barrels are ultra rare. This gun is in excellent shape with only safe marks. This gun may possibly have one box of shells through it and locks up as new. It has 28″ barrels with factory interchangeable chokes. Cylinder/IC are included. It has ejectors and sst. Barrels and receiver have the factory matte finish so you do not have to worry about the blueing rusting. Center bead installed. LOP is 14 1/2 to the factory Beretta Recoil Pad. DAC is 1 1/2 and DAH is 2 3/8 and the stock is neutral.
Here’s one of the best grouse guns you’ll find: a 20 gauge Beretta 686 Onyx O/U with 28″ barrels and screw-in chokes. It’s on Gunbroker.com now, and the auctions ends Wednesday, 11/27/2013, @ 2:50:50 PM ET.
With low-profile actions and reliable, time-tested mechanics, Beretta’s 680 series shotguns are one of the best over-under ever made. I think the 686 Onyx models are the finest looking ones the company has ever turned out.
Beretta Black Onyx 20ga, O/U, 28″ barrel, Single Trigger: This is a rare to find gun in that condition. They stopped making the black receiver. This is an excellent condition with fine wood. It still has the original blue box. This guns is like new in box, it has less 200 rounds. The top lever is still far to the right. For 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells.
