Beretta Model 686 Blackwing J686180 20 Ga 3″ Shells O/U Shotgun, MFD 2002

When it combines to shotguns that offer a ton of quality and value, Beretta’s 686 line of OUs are had to beat — especially when they’re set up like the 20g Blackwing you see here. Lock Stock and Barrel Investments has it listed on Gunbroker.com right now, and the online auction listing ends next Sunday, 7/10/2022, @ 8:25 PM.

Beretta Model 686 Blackwing J686180 20 Ga 3″ Shells O/U Shotgun, MFD 2002

From what I can see, the gun looks like it’s built on the same action and design as other 686-model Beretta’s — but with one exception. The barrels feature an interesting ribless design. This must make the gun lighter than a standard 20g 686. It was probably a little less expensive for Beretta to build, too.

Miroku L-II 12-bore Boxlock English Stock like Browning BSS but BETTER
Miroku L-II 12-bore Boxlock English Stock like Browning BSS but BETTER

Miroku L-II 12-bore Boxlock English Stock like Browning BSS but BETTER: For sale is a super nice Miroku L-II boxlock. This sleek 12-bore features a classic Anson and Deeley type boxlock action made popular by the Birmingham, England guntrade. Miroku is the maker of the Browning BSS and this is a cousin to that gun. Basically, its the same gun made in the same factory by the craftsman with a different name on it… But this Miroku is much better finished! This Miroku was intended for the European market and was purchased by a military man serving overseas. These European offerings are much better finished guns than the Browning versions in my opinion. This particular model looks like the classic English boxlock. The color cased action is nicely shaped and beautifully hand engraved with well-cut scroll engraving. The 28″ barrels are well struck and are choked IMP/FULL… a classic English choke combination. They’re topped with a flat rib and are balanced by a walnut stock classically configured with straight grip, splinter forend, and hand-cut checkering. The butt is finished with a silvers recoil pad. This shotgun is in great condition. The bores are clean, and barrel walls are free from dents. The stocks oil finish is still good and the stock is solid (though it does have a repaired crack from fall on a quail hunt 15 years ago. Many hundreds of rounds have been fired since that time with no issue). As you would expect, the gun functions perfectly. The lock up is rock solid, and the trigger pulls are nice and crisp. This quality gun is ready to provide a lifetime of reliable use to it new owner. Maker: Miroku, Model: L-II, Barrels: 28″, Chokes: IMP/FULL, Weight: 6lbs 12oz, DAC: 1 3/8″, DAH: 2 5/16″, LOP: 14 3/8″ over silvers pad, Cast: appears to be neutral. Price: $1,950

Watson Brothers is the last gunmaker owned English Gun builder in England. Watson Brothers truly carries on the British Bespoke Gunmaking tradition – this gun is built on a modified Beesley Action, the same action on which the Purdey SXS is built.  The innovation is beyond cool.  He has changed the ejectors, massive improvement, triggers, and barrels.  One could easily argue that this is the finest English gun made today. You can learn more about Browning Citoris here in this article from Shooting Times and also here on their Wikipedia page.

The one you see here appears to be in excellent condition. These guns usually weigh under 6lbs, so it would be a great upland gun. Here’s more information about it from the seller:

This is the VERY RARE & DESIRABLE  “SuperLight” Model!!! Not the “Sporter” Model, the “Sporter” model is desirable as well, but nothing close to the “SUPERLIGHT“!!!

  • A quick way to tell the difference btw: the two is that the “SUPERLIGHT’s” WILL ONLY EXCEPT 2 3/4 inch shells! While the “Sporter” Model will except 3inch shells…
  • These “SUPERLIGHT’s” are OVER 1 POUND LIGHTER than their “Sporter” Model Cousin!!
  • Unlike today’s alloy framed & gloss finished Citori’s, this GEM is an ALL STEEL receiver and sports a gorgeous OIL FINISH that doesn’t show dings as ugly white scars the way gloss finishes do!!

STUNNING! 1985 Browning Citori SUPERLIGHT 20Ga! 95% COND! Factory ENGRAVED!

This Citori SUPERLIGHT is in excellent condition! If it wasn’t for the very small handling marks near the receiver, I would rate this at 99%+. But in no way do these small handling marks take away from the beauty of this piece!

OVERALL:
If you are looking for a super classy upland shotgun THIS IS IT!!!
This is one phenomenal over/under by Browning – arguably the best model for upland bird hunting with its light-weight, gorgeous English stock & undeniably sexy schnabel fore end!!!

Ithaca Field Grade 10ga – SxS Fantastic and near mint. The case hardened frame is lightly border engraved.  Capped pistol grip buttstock is point pattern checkered through the wrist and terminates with the original lined lined hard rubber buttplate. Overall, the gun remains in near mint original condition.  Barrels retain nearly all of their original blue with only a very minor rub or two.  Receiver retains virtually all of its bold original case color as seen in the photos.  Stocks are sound and retain virtually all of their original finish with only very minor handling marks.  Bores are brilliant and shiny and mechanics are crisp.  This is a very near mint gun which has been scarcely fired.  Breech face shows almost no shell ring evidence. Truly Exceptional and exceedingly rare Holland and Holland Dominion Grade 8 Bore shotgun with Huey case – A wonderful big bore: Easily the single finest 8ga Holland and Holland I’ve ever had the privilege of handling, this very rare Dominion Grade gun, made in 1903, made with 32″ fluid steel barrels with maker name and Bond street address on tops.  Large splinter forend is checkered in point pattern with horn tip.  Hand detachable case hardened locks with nice border engraved and frame is also case hardened and border engraved.  Locks aslo engraved “Holland and Holland” on both sides.  Beautifully figured English walnut buttstock is checkered in point pattern through the wrist and terminates with its original hard Silvers type pad.  The gun has double triggers and extractors, safety with the word “SAFE” in gold.  The gun is housed in a fantastic Marvin Huey fully furnished oak and leather case with accessories which itself is a work of art and $4500 to replace today.  This gun remains in superb all original condition (exceedingly rare) with more than 97% original barrel blue.  The locks and action retain nearly all of their original case color with toning at carry point but colors still present on most all surfaces.  Particularly vivid on locks.  The stocks are sound and retain nearly all of their factory original finish with only the most minor of handling marks.  Bores are brilliant and shiny.  Mechanics are crisp.  The case is excellent to near mint with only a few minor rubs. It would be impossible to find a finer 8ga Holland and this is by far the most choice I have examined. Price: $49,500

Orvis periodically creates a custom shotgun offering with “Orvis Custom” labeling and some very nice, upgraded features.  You will see these custom labeled guns made by various quality makers over the years.  This gun was produced for Orvis by Arrieta of Spain.  The Arrieta y CIA is one of the finest of the Spanish made shotguns produced in the true Basque traditions.  Michael McIntosh praises the Arrieta in his book “Best Guns” and in fact carried his Arrieta afield as much as any other gun he owned.  The Basque makers were famous for making quality “copies” of other guns, and this Arrieta is a Holland & Holland sidelock action produced to perfection.  With chopper lump barrels, removable striker discs, articulated front trigger, stocked to the fences, drop points, beaded fences, sculpted frame, cocking indicators, deep chiseled, hand chiseled engraving, perfectly struck barrels, file cut rib, you have ALL OF THE BEST GUN FEATURES AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE!  This gun, sn37459 built in 1984 was special ordered by Orvis with the options of case colored receiver and skeleton buttplate. Weighing in at 5lbs. 13oz. and balanced on the hinge pin, she is just what you would expect of a fine sidelock 28ga. game gun…dynamic handling characteristics and lightning fast mounting for the fast flush of quail, grouse, woodcock, or the wild upland birds of the western plains.  This gun will be a delight for all day walks over hill and dale.  These guns ran over $6800 when new, and this gun has barely been carried or fired.  You might as well save hundreds of dollars and buy this one.  Cased in a nice canvas and leather case with accessories and Arrieta trade label worth over $450, the case adds a lot of value to a fine little shotgun like this small bore.  Arrieta closed its doors several years ago and there are no more being made.  You will not find a better value in a modern, Holland & Holland style sidelock small gauge gun. Price: $4,950

Pedro Arrizabalaga 12 gauge, Two-barrel set, Sidelock ejector, Regal Sabel, imported to the UK by Gunmark, Ltd in 1976
Pedro Arrizabalaga 12 gauge, Two-barrel set, Sidelock ejector, Regal Sabel, imported to the UK by Gunmark, Ltd in 1976

Pedro Arrizabalaga 12 gauge, Two-barrel set, Sidelock ejector, Regal Sabel, imported to the UK by Gunmark, Ltd in 1976: This gun was made in 1976 by Pedro Arrizabalaga and imported to the U.K. by Gunmark, Ltd. Arrizabalaga is known throughout the world as “The Purdy of Spain”, one of the finest manufacturers of London Best-Style doubles. This two-barrel set began it’s life as a “composed” pair, but over the course of 45 years, gun #2 lost its locks and had a broken stock. I had my gunsmith fit the barrels from gun #2 to the action of gun #1. The chokes of both barrels are improved and modified, but one set can be opened up for different hunting situations. Both sets of barrels have mirror bores, but the #2 set has a more highly polished exterior. The action retains most of its color case hardening. There are minor handling marks on the exterior of both barrel sets. Both sets of barrels ring like bells and shoot well on the skeet range and on pheasants. The wood is above average, showing some fiddleback and smoke and honey contrast. The stock shows handling marks from field use. It has an articulated front trigger, hand-detachable locks and well-timed ejectors.  The trigger pulls are 4# and 3-1/4#. The gun is well-balanced (just ahead of the hinge pin), is quick to the shoulder, and swings like a dream. I bought a new canvas and leather two-barrel gun case to use as my own, but I have no other two-barrel sets in my collection. I even made a custom insert to hold the action from gun #2, which I am including. Arrizabalaga is no longer in business, so this is your chance to own a gun from one of the best manufacturers in Spain, at a fair price. Price: $3950.

Auction alert: 20g Beretta BL-4 OU shotgun, ends 12/3 …

Beretta, Model BL-4, 20 Ga, OU Shotgun
Beretta, Model BL-4, 20 Ga, OU Shotgun

Here’s your chance to get a deal on one of my favorite OUs. Ward’s Collectibles in Dallas, OR, has this 20g Beretta BL-4 in their online auction and the listing ends Friday, 12/3.

Introduced in the ’60s, Beretta’s BL grade OUs were imported into the US by the Garcia Corp through the ’70s.

The BLs feature a shallow, low profile action scaled to match the gauge. They were priced to be values – not cheap, but well made guns at fair prices. They came in a number of grades, with the BL-5s being the highest. All of them were rugged, reliable doubles, built to deliver a lot of quality for a fair amount of money.
