The Savage Fox A Grade shotgun you see here is an odd duck. It’s on Gunbroker.com now with No Reserve. The listing ends 8/25/2019 1:50 PM.
But that doesn’t mean the Savage Fox A Grade is a bad gun. In fact, I think it’s better than the real thing, and right now, the one you see here is an absolute steal.
The new Savage Fox A Grade is actually a CSMC RBL with different aesthetics. That’s a good thing because the RBL is a well built, it used the tried-and-true Anson & Deeley-style boxlock action, and features modern metals, modern stock dimensions, choke tubes, and comes with a case.
Savage Arms FOX Grade A 20 Gauge: The Savage Arms Fox A Grade is a side by side shotgun. This particular version is chambered in 20 gauge and features a hammer-less Anson Deeley-style box lock action along with Holland & Holland style extractors. The double triggers and case colored receiver add to the overall look. Undoubtedly the precision cut checkered American Black Walnut stock featuring an oil finished is something for the eye to behold. The Fox A Grade side by side is a work of art which belongs in a museum but can happily reside on your arm and in the field with you for years to come. Savage Arms Fox A Grade Side By Side Shotgun, 20 Gauge 28″ barrel. Comes with original box, papers etc. It’s in unfired like new condition.

The state of Connecticut may not be the first place you think of as “gun country.” But since the 19th century, it has been home to some of America’s most famous gunmakers, including Parker Bros, Winchester, and Colt. Thousands of rifles, pistols, and shotguns have been built in Connecticut, probably millions.
In the 1975s, a gunmaker called the Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company (CSMC) opened for business. CSMC started building Fox shotguns and Winchester M21s in the 1990s. Around 2006 or so they launched their RBL-line of side by sides, first in 12g and 20g. The 28gs followed a few years later, and ones like you see here cost around $7500+ new today.
This one is on Gunbroker.com now and the No Reserve listing ends Wednesday, 6/27/2018 @ 11:15 PM.
CSMC RBL all options 28 ga., first-year edition serial number 002801. Awesome, full “Feather crotch” American walnut! This was the debut of the 28 ga. & SHOT Show display gun several years ago. I saw that wood and configuration and have to have it, so they reluctantly agreed to ship it to me after the show. Hard to find, configuration with 30” barrels, concave tapered game rib, double triggers, Self-opening feature, Beavertail fore end, capped “Prince of Wales” pistol grip, Full-length rolled-edge trigger guard, stunning XXX Fancy feather-crotch American walnut with classic, dull oil finish. Nice scroll engraving with dog and bird cameos finished off with authentic bone charcoal case colors. Excellent overall condition with only signs of wear being on the breech face and slight thinning of the gold on the triggers (suede gloves) – the rest is near mint with a couple small dings on the fore end just below the screw (pictured). Complete with case and accessories. These are the best value in mid-range SxS guns on the market and this one is a desirable and very hard to find configuration.

W.W. Greener, G 60 Royal, Boxlock Model, Self-Opener, Ejector, 12 gauge, 30” 2 ¾” 99%: This is the famous Facile Princeps action, designed in 1998, and touted as, pound for pound, the strongest action ever produced. This Royal was built in 1914. Its condition is 100% original and most likely only taken out for a shoot just a couple of times, stored all these years in some fine gun rack as can be seen by its nearly mint condition. The Royal model came in both sidelock and best boxlock versions, and is described as a Best Self-acting or Unique ejector with customer-ordered engraving which could be ordered with fine scroll or deeply carved relief or game scenes (depending on customer choice), with a gold crown on the top lever. For pairs, the gold crown was replaced with gold numbers, 1 and 2, as noted in Graham Greener’s book, The Greener Story, page 110. This specimen is a #2 of a pair, serial number 64144, and you can see that its owner chose elegant game scenes of dogs, birds, and a rabbit surrounded by extremely fine scroll work. True to all Royal models, the fences are arcaded and the strength of the Facile Princeps action is enhanced by its bolstered receiver. All Royals were fitted with the best wood available. Barrels are original with mirror bores. Right bore measures .732” with .040 choke (Full) and left bore is .733” with .040 choke (Full). Proved for 1 ¼ oz. Nitro. L.C. Smith “O” Grade 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun: 1899 GUN, 70% CASE COLOR, CONDITION: LC Smith, Year 1899, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 14oz, Side by Side. Serial Number: 60594
The L.C. Smith “O” Grade was a step above the Field Grade that came out in 1913 from Hunter Arms (replacing the pre-1913 “OO” Grade) in that it had a bit nicer wood and checkering, a black ebony inlay in the forend tip, and in 1899, the year this gun was produced, a set of nice damascus steel barrels. This gun, sn60594, is in remarkable condition for its 115 years of age, with lots of case color, perfect screws, perfect wood to metal fit, nicely figured European walnut (book says English walnut, looks like French to me), factory original checkering is excellent, 30″ damascus barrels that still retain 98% of their original black and white pattern, no cracks anywhere, full length butt stock to the factory butt plate, and tight as new mechanically. With the long barrels and 1/2 round pistol grip, this is a great sporting clays or upland gun, and weighing 6lbs. 14oz. is not too heavy to carry all day.
Barrel Length: 30″, Chokes: .028/.026 F/F, Bores: very good, Bore Diameter: .646/.648, Wall Thickness: .031/.028, Blue: 95% damascus, Chambers: 2 5/8″, Ribs: tight, Sights: single, Ejectors or Extractors: extractors, Case Color: 85% faded, Screws: perfect, Trigger Type: double, crisp
