Here’s another chance to get a deal on a great little OU. This gun is on Gunbroker.com now and the online auction ends Tuesday, 1/5/2021 @ 6:09 PM.
Ruger built these Red Label OUs in three gauges — 12, 20 & 28. Everyone I’ve talked to says the twenty-eight is the winner of the bunch by far. Most of the ones you see out there have 26′ barrels, so the one you see here is special with its 28″ tubes. It looks like it’s in great shape, too.

My dad bought me a Ruger 10/22 when I was 13. I plinked a lot of cans with that rifle. and became a fan of Ruger firearms.
So I wanted to love the Red Label over-under was a shotgun. But they never did it for me, until I came across one of the 28s. All the sins the 20- and 12-gauge models committed — too heavy, crappy fit & finish, no real “fee” — were missing from the 28.
The Ruger Red Label introduced in 1977 and built until 2015. The first Ruger Red Label were were 20-gauges with 26″ barrels. The company started offering 12s in 1979, and in 1994 they introduced the 28g. Twenty-eights came with 28″ & 26″ bbls, and with straight grips & pistol grips, and they were lightweight, dynamic little guns regardless of how they were setup.

Extremely fine Parker VH 20ga with original hang tags: Rarely do we find Parkers in high original condition – even more rarely do we find them with original hang tags. Lefever EE Grade 12ga. SxS Shotgun – BEAUTIFUL DAMASCUS, GREAT DIMENSIONS: 1901, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 10oz, SxS Serial Number: 35307E.Most who pursue American doubles are aware that Lefever Arms Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. produced very elegant shotguns. The engraving is better than most in its tasteful application, the frames were ornately sculpted and shaped, and the workmanship overall was superior to the competition of the day. With the last Lefever being produced in 1919, Lefever produced relatively few guns; in the range of 50.000 or so in all grades and gauges, most being lower grade guns. Mr. Elliot’s book “Uncle Dan Lefever—Master Gunmaker” notes few high-grade Lefevers were produced, and most gunners that search for fine American vintage double guns are aware that there are few Lefever EE Grade guns ever seen for sale, especially in great original condition. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS LEFEVER, SN35307 MADE IN 1901, RETAINS PLENTY OF FACTORY ORIGINAL CASE COLORS. Price:$4,450
Ruger Red Label. 28 ga. 28″ choke tubes, with extra straight stock: Here is a nice, lightweight 28 ga. that is both light, petite, and in a great gauge. Also with this gun come with an extra straight stock that has been shortened for a lady, youngster or a gentleman with shorter arms. Here’s another one of these awesome OUs. These doubles are magic wands in the grouse woods. Most of the ones I see have pretty poor wood — but not this one. The 28″ barrels and straight grip are also hard to find.

As you daydream about fall colors and flushing birds, you’re probably thinking about the right shotgun to carry, too. Well, this new-to-you 28g Ruger Red Label OU would be the perfect choice.
I remember dreaming about Red Labels decades, ago. Back when I was a kid, they were the only OUs most gunshops carried. I spent a lot of time leaning across counters and trying to get a closer look at them.
I don’t think I ever saw a 28g. If I had, I’m sure I would have fallen in love with it. While the Ruger Red Label 12s & 20s can have more warts than a Halloween witch, the 28s are as close to perfect as these guns get. They’re fairly priced, too.
This one is on Gunbroker.com now and the auction ends 6/5/2016 @ 3:45:18 PM ET.

Even though I have issues with Ruger’s 12g & 20g OUs, I love their 28 gauges. These shotguns are a joy to handle, reliable, and well made. I’m convinced they’ll be remembered as one of the best bird guns America has ever built.
RED LABEL STURM RUGER 28 GAUGE OU SHOTGUN: You are bidding on a Scarce Red Label Sturm Ruger 28 Gauge over and under shotgun, new with no reserve! This firearm is part a large 40+ year old collection of which I will be auctioning off in upcoming future auctions. It chambers 2 3/4″ shells and features are a 28″ vent rib over and under barrel with interchangeable choke tubes, stainless receiver and trigger with high polished blued parts, and an absolutely gorgeous walnut stock with checkered stock and forearm.

People have all sorts of opinions of Ruger’s Red Label O/Us shotguns. But while the 12 gauge & 20 gauge models have their quirks (OK, problems), the 28g is the one Ruger hit a home run with. It’s a fantastic double and one of the best birds gun America has ever made. If you’re a grouse, quail, woodcock hunter, it’s all the gun you need to get the job done.
This 28g Ruger Red Labelis on Gunbroker.com. It’s a NO RESERVE auction and it ends 4/27/2015 @ 10:30:00 PM ET. While it does have a few dings, I don’t see anything to worry about. All I see is a great gun — and the chance to get a great deal.

Here’s a good deal on a nice looking Ruger. I’ve said it a bunch of time before and I’ll say it again: These 28s are fantastic upland guns, and they have a real following. The ones with 28″ are tougher to find — especially at this kind of a price.
Here’s a nice little double that’s coming to auction this Wednesday, 2/10, at Montrose Auctions in Montrose, GA. These little Ruger Red Label 28 gauges are one of the best bird guns ever made in America. If you’re looking for a great grouse & woodcock gun, you should check it out.
Here’s a chance to get a great deal on one of the best upland guns America has ever made. Ruger’s Red Label O/Us tend to be clunky and a bit cumbersome in 12g & 20g. But the 28 gauge models are a different beast altogether. Light & lively, they are one of the handiest O/Us you’ll ever find, and absolutely deadly on grouse & woodcock.
This one has all the hard-to-find features that I like to see, too: Straight, English-style stock with nice figure in it, 28″ barrels, and all it’s accessories. It’s even in it’s original case. It’s on Gunbroker.com now, and the listing ends on Monday, 11/3/2014, @ 1:57:57 PM ET.
BTW: Ruger introduced the Red Label in 1977 and made them until 2011. They reintroduced them this year, but only in 12 & 20 gauge. I hope the company will come out with an updated 28 gauge in the near future.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: You are bidding on a VERY nice, and very clean Ruger Red Label over and under shotgun chambered in 28 gauge with an English stock. The gun comes with the original box and paperwork, as well as 5 choke tubes (Full, modified, improved cylinder, and two skeet). The gun is in exceptional condition, with no noticeable imperfections to speak of. Upon close inspection, there are two very small indentations in the wood, but they are very hard to find. If this gun was used, it was not used much, that is for sure. Overall, I would rate this gun in 98% condition, but that is my opinion, please look at all the pictures and rate the gun for yourself.
A lot of people think double-barrel shotguns are too expensive. While nice shotguns aren’t cheap, you can buy plenty of side-by-sides and over-unders for less than what a new Benelli autoloader costs. Here are a couple of these bargain bird guns. All three are on the market right now:
For guys who likes the classics, this 20 gauge Ithaca NID is perfect for grouse, woodcock, and quail. Ithaca’s NIDs are sort of the F150 of the vintage shotgun world – rugged, reliable, and no frills (I’m talking the cheapest F150s). This one appears to be in decent original condition, and at $995 it’s fairly priced.
If you O/Us are more your style, this 20 gauge Beretta BL-4 is worth checking out. It’s on Gunbroker.com now and the listing ends on 7/27/2014 @ 10:02:36 PM ET.
For guys looking for something different, this Ruger Red Label in 28 gauge is odd enough to catch attention but still versatile enough to use all season. This one is also on Gunbroker.com now and the listing ends 7/27/2014 @ 5:28:45 PM.
Here’s one of the nicest upland guns America has ever produced. The 28 gauge Ruger Red Label is light enough to lug around all day and handy enough to get the job done when a woodcock or grouse finally flies. And it’s not so expensive that you’ll cringe as you bash your way through an alder thicket or scrape the stock against a poplar tree
This one is one Gunbroker.com now, and the auction ends today, 6/10/2014, @ 9:00:00 PM ET. Here’s all the info about the gun from the seller: 28 gauge Ruger Red Label Over-Under Double Barrel Shotgun: You are looking at a ruger red label 28 gauge 28 inch with 5 chokes full, mod, imp cyl, skeet, skeet. Yesterday I mentioned how I’m always thinking about the value of firearms – what were they worth in the past, what will they be worth in future. This 28 gauge Ruger is one shotgun I consider to be an outstanding value, and I bet it will hold its value into the future.
Most of the Ruger 28s I see have 26″ barrels. The extra two inches on the ends of this one make it harder to find and more desirable.
Ruger Red Label 28 gauge Over/Under Shotgun: In good used condition. 28″ barrels come with 7 chokes. There are some light handling marks from use. Slight blue wear at the muzzle.
