Here’s another chance to get a deal on a great little OU. This gun is on Gunbroker.com now and the online auction ends Tuesday, 1/5/2021 @ 6:09 PM.
Ruger built these Red Label OUs in three gauges — 12, 20 & 28. Everyone I’ve talked to says the twenty-eight is the winner of the bunch by far. Most of the ones you see out there have 26′ barrels, so the one you see here is special with its 28″ tubes. It looks like it’s in great shape, too.

RUGER RED LABEL 28GA OVER UNDER SHOTGUN (LNIB) 1996
My dad bought me a Ruger 10/22 when I was 13. I plinked a lot of cans with that rifle. and became a fan of Ruger firearms.
So I wanted to love the Red Label over-under was a shotgun. But they never did it for me, until I came across one of the 28s. All the sins the 20- and 12-gauge models committed — too heavy, crappy fit & finish, no real “fee” — were missing from the 28.
The Ruger Red Label introduced in 1977 and built until 2015. The first Ruger Red Label were were 20-gauges with 26″ barrels. The company started offering 12s in 1979, and in 1994 they introduced the 28g. Twenty-eights came with 28″ & 26″ bbls, and with straight grips & pistol grips, and they were lightweight, dynamic little guns regardless of how they were setup.

Extremely fine Parker VH 20ga with original hang tags
Extremely fine Parker VH 20ga with original hang tags: Rarely do we find Parkers in high original condition – even more rarely do we find them with original hang tags. Even more rare than that, is to have the lineage of the gun from the day it was born until today. This little VH 20ga was purchased by legendary Parker collector, Charlie Price from the original owner’s son some 30+ years ago. The gun is a fine VH 20ga with 28″ Vulcan steel barrels made in 1921 and letters almost exactly as found today. It has a splinter forend, double triggers, extractors, and auto safety. The gun has a full pistol grip buttstock and the original DHBP. A photo of the PGCA Letter is attached. The gun remains in superb original untouched condition with more than 85% original case color. The barrels retain about 90% original blue with some minor spotting towards the muzzle. Stocks are crisp and sound and retain more than 95% original finish. The gun measures 14″ LOP with drops of 1-1/2″ and 3″ at heel- exactly as ordered. Gun has original 2-1/2″ chambers. Chokes measure .005 in the right and .017 in the left with bores both measuring .622. MWT are .022 (R) and .024(L). Original hangtags included. Finding these high condition smallbore Parkers is fun and this one is a gem. Having been the best one Charlie Price was able to acquire is like the cherry on top! Price:$8995

All original and correct in every respect, featuring a nicely figured walnut buttstock. Price:$2,050

Lefever EE Grade 12ga. SxS Shotgun – BEAUTIFUL DAMASCUS, GREAT DIMENSIONS
Lefever EE Grade 12ga. SxS Shotgun – BEAUTIFUL DAMASCUS, GREAT DIMENSIONS: 1901, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 10oz, SxS Serial Number: 35307E.Most who pursue American doubles are aware that Lefever Arms Co. of Syracuse, N.Y. produced very elegant shotguns. The engraving is better than most in its tasteful application, the frames were ornately sculpted and shaped, and the workmanship overall was superior to the competition of the day. With the last Lefever being produced in 1919, Lefever produced relatively few guns; in the range of 50.000 or so in all grades and gauges, most being lower grade guns. Mr. Elliot’s book “Uncle Dan Lefever—Master Gunmaker” notes few high-grade Lefevers were produced, and most gunners that search for fine American vintage double guns are aware that there are few Lefever EE Grade guns ever seen for sale, especially in great original condition. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THIS LEFEVER, SN35307 MADE IN 1901, RETAINS PLENTY OF FACTORY ORIGINAL CASE COLORS. Price:$4,450

28g Ruger Red Label Over Under Double Barrel Shotgun, 28″ bbls
Arguing is a great American pastime, and these days, people seem to be more committed to it than ever before. So lets take a time out and talk about something that’s not controversial: The Ruger Red Label.
Kidding.
From the moment the Red Label was introduced in 1977 to when it was finally put to rest in 2016, people have had strong opinions about this over-under shotgun. Lovers liked how it was American made. Haters disliked its heavy weight, sloppy wood-to-metal fit and non-existent quality control.
28g Ruger Red Label Over Under Double Barrel Shotgun, 28″ bbls
The Red Label was first made in 12 and 20 gauge. These are these models earned the gun its reputation for being a heavy, cumbersome pig. But in 1994, Ruger introduced their 28 gauge version of this shotgun. It proved to be the one that got just about everything right.
This one looks unfired, and it features the harder-to-find 28” barrels. It’s on Gunbroker.com now at No Reserve. The listing ends this Sat, 4/29/2017, @ 9:59 PM. So if you like what you see, bid on it now.
Ruger Red Label 28ga O/U, 28″: Made in 1997 and I can find no evidence that it was ever fired! This gun is a solid 99%. Bores are pristine and there is no evidence of a primer ring on the breech face as seen. Barrel length is 28″ and LOP is 14 1/2″. It comes with a case that is very nice. Also comes with 5 extra chokes.
Ruger Red Label O/U 28 Gauge: A very good looking Ruger Red Label O/U shotgun in 28 gauge. Nice light gun that would be great for sporting or even better for bird hunting. Lower serial for a 28 Gauge Red Label so could be nice for a Ruger collection. Price:$1,499.99

Ruger Red Label 28 gauge, OU Shotgun, 1st year NIB
Summer’s just getting started and that’s great news. It means we’re getting closer to grouse & woodcock season.
As you daydream about fall colors and flushing birds, you’re probably thinking about the right shotgun to carry, too. Well, this new-to-you 28g Ruger Red Label OU would be the perfect choice.
I remember dreaming about Red Labels decades, ago. Back when I was a kid, they were the only OUs most gunshops carried. I spent a lot of time leaning across counters and trying to get a closer look at them.
I don’t think I ever saw a 28g. If I had, I’m sure I would have fallen in love with it. While the Ruger Red Label 12s & 20s can have more warts than a Halloween witch, the 28s are as close to perfect as these guns get. They’re fairly priced, too.
This one is on Gunbroker.com now and the auction ends 6/5/2016 @ 3:45:18 PM ET.

RUGER O/U Double Barrel Red Label 28 Ga Shotgun LIKE NEWRUGER O/U Double Barrel Red Label 28 Ga Shotgun LIKE NEW
People have all sorts of opinions of Ruger’s Red Label O/Us shotguns. But while the 12 gauge & 20 gauge models have their quirks (OK, problems), the 28g is the one Ruger hit a home run with. This 28g Ruger Red Labelis on Gunbroker.com. It’s a NO RESERVE auction and it ends 4/27/2015 @ 10:30:00 PM ET. While it does have a few dings, I don’t see anything to worry about. All I see is a great gun — and the chance to get a great deal.

But even though the Ruger Gold Label had many fans, the company killed it. Why? I’m not sure. While I think it sold well, the numbers may not have been high enough to make building it worth Ruger’s trouble. Gunrunner online auction has this one and the listing ends tomorrow, 04/14/15 @ 19:50:00. If you like what you see, bid on it now.

Here’s a good deal on a nice looking Ruger. I’ve said it a bunch of time before and I’ll say it again: These 28s are fantastic upland guns, and they have a real following. The ones with 28″ are tougher to find — especially at this kind of a price.
