Capped pistol grip stock with 13 7/8” LOP over the dogs head butt plate, 1 5/8” DAC and 2 ½” DAH; splinter forearm. Belgian Browning Super Light Superposed 20 Ga: Consigned to Cole’s is this very nice Belgian Browning Superposed Super Light in 20 ga with 26-inch barrels. The shotgun bears serial # 223PW02990. The bores are excellent. The upper barrel is choked Mod (**) and the lower is choked IC (**-). This shotgun weighs in at 5lbs 14 oz, a true super lightweight. The shotgun has a long tang, straight grip. The LOP is 14 ¾” and terminates with a Decelerator recoil pad. The stock has various minor nicks and dings from days afield. The gun is nice and tight and there is no looseness to be found open or when in battery. The bluing is just starting to flake from the bottom of the receiver from carry. Some very minor loss of factory finish is observed along the tang as well. Again, this from honest use pursuing dove and quail. H&H Cavalier 12 ga. best boxlock SxS shotgun: For a few years H&H took what was essentially a best quality Birmingham boxlock similar to a W C Scott Bowood; added H&H improvements and extra finish to make the Cavalier. Such upgrades as a removable hinge pin for future tightening capabilities, chopper lump barrels, higher grade wood and better finishes. It is my understanding that H&H could never market/sell the Cavalier for enough money to cover their costs, so production stopped after three years for economic reasons. This is a Holland & Holland. The 28” chopper lump barrels are finished in a dark rust blue and are fitted with a tapered, concave smooth solid rib and just a front silver bead. The bore diameters are as stamped, .728” with the right barrel choked .010” (IC) and the left barrel choked .020” (Mod) and minimum wall thicknesses of .035” in each. The frame in nicely finished with original case colors retaining over 85% and a blued floor plate and blued trigger guard. The handsome walnut straight hand stock has a 15” LOP over and original ½” full leather recoil pad. There is 1 3/8” DAC, 2 ¼” DAH and 14” right hand cast. The splinter forearm is fitted with a Deeley release. This truly delightful game gun weighs 6 lbs. 5 oz., lively and balanced perfectly between the hands. The gun comes cased with H&H accessories. When I first got into doubles, twenty-gauge shotguns weren’t my thing. I was more interested in 12 gauges and — my favorites — sixteens. But as I’ve aged, I’ve earned a respect twenties. Ammo is easy to find for them, most of them are lightweight, and the throw enough lead to kill the birds I hunt most of the time.
The four 20 gauge shotguns listed below are both and unusual and unusually versatile. Check them out now.
W&C. Scott & Sons 20 Bore Hammergun in Excellent Condition: This little gun has a lot of character. It has great lines and handles like a wand. My photos don’t do justice to the gun. The finishes are much better than the photos suggest. The gun was refurbished by Keith & Cody Kearcher in Bend Oregon. The case coloring is original and is fading in the usual areas. The bores are bright and shiny with no visible imperfections. Lock-up is tight with or without the forend attached. I have used this gun on pheasants with great success. I use RST 2&1/2 inch loads. These are light Smokeless loads. Stock dimensions are excellent for the average shooter. Collectors are aware that small bore English guns are rare. This is especially true of W&C, Scott small bores. I have only encountered 3 in over 40 years of collecting Scott guns. Here are the specifications on this gun: Barrel length =28 inches. LOP from front trigger=14&1/2 inches. Chokes are Cylinder and Cylinder Weight is 5 & 3/4 pounds. Serial # is 37622. Date of Manufacture is 1885. Price:$3,250

Gunrunner Online Auctions remind me of those flea markets. I’ve been watching their sales for years and sometimes a double pops up that interests me. Here’s one of them.

While winter may is coming for Game of Thrones fans, us bird hunters have a better time of year around the corner: Fall. And if you’re chasing grouse, quail, woodcock this season, here’s the perfect OU to get things done.
Of all the Superposed shotguns Browning made, Superlight models were the trimmest. On top of all this, it’s priced very fairly and it’s just old enough to have a bit of character all its own.

Here’s a real nice 20 gauge Browning O/U. These early Browning Superposeds are great shotguns with excellent, shootable dimensions. This one is priced very fairly (something Cabela’s doesn’t do too often, anymore). If it’s as good as it looks, it’s a deal.
John Moses Browning was one of the most inventive minds in firearms. Born in 1855, he awarded his first patent at age 24. Between then and when he died in 1926, he designed and patented for everything from pistols and shotguns to rifles, machine guns, and cartridges. Mr Browning’s last design was for the famous Suporposed shotgun. Even though he passed away in 1926, his design was completed and introduced in 1931. The Superposed would go on to become one of the world’s great shotguns.
The 20 gauge Browning Superposed you see here looks like it’s in great shape. If you’re a collector, or if you would like to buy a classic shotgun that’s still basically brand-new, this is the one for you. This gun is on Gunbroker.com now, and the listing ends this Wednesday, 5/21, @ 2:44:08 PM ET.

HOLLAND & HOLLAND 450 #2 N. E. ROYAL DOUBLE RIFLE VERY RARE CARTRIDGE in a H&H- EXC. PLUS BORES- EXC. GUN INSIDE & OUT: #19100, Holland & Holland Sidelock Royal Ejector 450 No. 2 Nitro Express Finished at the Factory on August 30, 1906. This gun is a new offering on the U. S. market in a very rare cartridge offering of the great 450 #2 chambering, It has 26″ Ejector Chopper Lump barrels with rib extension third bite, 1/4 rib with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Fold-up night sight, London proof at 80 Cordite and 480 grain bullet, Bushed strikers, Double triggers with the front articulated, An extended top strap over the comb, Trapdoor grip cap with spare strikers and 2 spare front sights, Original LOP at 14 11/16″ over the original 1″ Silvers pad that is removable with plugs over the tiedown screws, Cast-off for the right hand, Proper weight of 10 lbs. 13 oz., The gun with 98% coverage of typical H&H Royal scroll, The frame retains 75% of original case colors, The breech face with 95% case colors, The inside forend metal with 99% case colors, The barrels have 96% original blue, The outside barrel striking is perfect, The buttstock re-oiled professionally and remains in 98% condition, The checkering remains at 96%, The bores are excellent plus and remain in super condition and for all intents and purposes look like they did over a 100 years ago, It is smack on the face, It has a Deluxe Oak & Leather brass cornered trunk case that is more modern than the gun and has a reproduced H&H trade label. This is flat out one nice 450 #2 Royal in a very rare chambering that is seldom ever seen or heard of in a H&H. Then top it all off; it has super bores, great condition, points like a dream with the proper cast-off and is offered in one of the greatest English cartridges of all time that shoots .458″ diameter bullets all day long. This is nice stuff here, most likely the only one of its kind on the world market. ////////////////////////////// Relative to the records from Holland & Holland, it was originally to be built as a 500/450 3 1/4″ nitro express. On the original build sheet it has a memo on June 12, 1906 that it was shot with Eley’s No. 2 nitro cartridge with 80 grs cordite and a 480 grain bullet. The gun is so marked and was proved accordingly. The length of pull on the build sheet is exactly as the gun measures to this day. Another memo on August 10, 1906 mentions fitting a spare Ivory front sight and it still is there in the trap grip cap and never installed. This piece remains almost exactly as it left H&H in August 1906. It was ordered by Fusils Guinard Armuriers in Paris and there is a very strong chance it never made it to India or Africa. Also, a very good chance that the First World War interupted the intended purpose or use of this gun and it remains to this day a very well kept piece. Price: $89,000
FRANCOTTE PRE WAR SIDELOCK 20 BORE SIDE x SIDE – RARE: This a wonderful little Francotte Pre War Sidelock Side by Side 20 Gauge, with 2.5 inch chambers, auto ejectors, double triggers, splinter forearm, English stock w/checkered butt, etc. Barrels are 25 & 5/8 Inches in length choked imp cyl & modified. Barrels retain most all blue and receiver retains approx 95% original blue finish. Gun was not a case colored gun. Wood is totally original with original finish and while solid with no cracks, chips, or issues I would (if I kept it) bring the wood to new and to include a freshening of the very fine checkering. Very minimal engraving on receiver for a sidelock firearm. Serial number range indicates gun was made circa 1937/38. Price:$8,995.
1937 Merkel Combination 16 Gauge / 7X57R: Serial #20329 This beautiful gun includes the original Carl Zeiss 4X scope and a very complementary case is also included. Barrel length is 26 & 3/4 with the length of pull set at 14″. Price: $8,500
Winchester Model 21 field 12 gauge SxS shotgun. 32″ bbls: A very early Model 21 with double triggers, extractors and splinter forearm. This 21 appears, in all regards, to be almost completely original and untouched. The 32” barrels are chambered 2 3/4″ and choked Mod & Full: measuring Mod (.018) and Full (.035(; the bores are perfect and barrel blue retains over 95% original blue. The frame has bright spots on the fences and on the bottom edges..otherwise the frame has 90-93% original blue. The back of the top tang is bright and I think the trigger guard has been “freshened”. The wood finish is original. No major damage or cracks; just an assortment of 70+ years of handling; checkering is smooth in spots. Butt plate is original and in great shape. 14” LOP, 1 9/16” DAC & 2 7/8” DAH. Weighs 8 lbs. Price:$3700
