Sorry for my lack of posts lately. My life has been crazy — shooting events, work, training for a race, plus a new house with a long list of honey-do’s to check off before my hunting season can get rolling.
On Saturday I made it down to Addieville, RI, to catch The Vintager’s annual event. The weather was great, and there were a hundred of nice guns there American, British, European. Check out the slideshow below to see a few.
The Fox Collectors and Lefever Collectors had a bunch of fabulous guns on display, and dealers like Steve Barnett and Griffin & Howe had some fabulous pieces on their tables. I hear the shooting was good, too.
Last week I drow 6+ hours and 400+ to check out the Orvis Game Fair in Millbrook, NY. I have to say, this event is turning into a great show. I number of gun dealers were on hand – Connecticut Shotgun, Griffin & Howe, Steve Barnett, etc – along with makers like Purdey and Williams & Son. It was much better attended than Vintagers, and it offered a lot more for everyone in the family. It was also free to get in.
Have an old double barrel or side-by-side you’re wondering about? Then here’s a great chance to find out more about it. Gunsinternational.com is bringing. Gunsmith Jack Rowe to the 2012 Vintage Cup, happening next weekend in Addieville, RI. Here are the details:
The most knowledgeable English Trained Gunmaker in the U.S. Jack Rowe will be offering gun examinations, similar to those offered at the British Game Fair. If you have questions concerning any of your guns or if you have a gun of unknown maker, English, Belgian, Spanish or German bring it along to the Vintager’s and have Jack Rowe examine it for you. He will be offering examinations similar to those offered at the U.K. Game Fair. Jack’s examination includes origin, maker, history which could possibly includ individuals involved in the making of your gun. Additionally, he can assist in determining the caliber, gauge, barrel wall thickness, chokes, condition, and if the gun is safe to fire. Jack will be charging a small examination fee for each gun.
If you love double barrel shotguns and you live within 5 hours of Rhode Island, you absolutely have to check out the 2012 Vintage Cup, being held Sept. 27-30 at Addieville East Farm in Mapleville, RI.
The Vintage Cup is the finest event in the country for vintage side-by-sides and fine doubles. From Parkers to Purdeys, this event will give you the chance to tons of fine shotguns, all together in one place.
It’s also a great place to do some shooting and to see some great exhibitions. Once of my favorites to check out is the dangerous rifle, big bore shoot. Check out these videos for a taste of what you can expect (that doubling 4 gauge side-by-side had to hurt)!
